  1. Thank you, I have already done both suggestions. I was hopeing for conformation that I was doing the right things but seems like that is hard to find. You here of some many times that facilities ask you to do what is beond your scope and telling this is ok. YOu wouldn't believe how hard it is to find out, I have been searching endlessly for over a month now.My nurse practice act is so vague I can't make head or tail of it, I ve asked my state boards and get a vague response or no answer at all. I have aked this web site, friends, my soon to be place of buisiness. I was just hoping some practicing LPN's could shed some light on my questions for me. I have made other posts with the same questions but I am not yet satisfied with the answer I have as only two individuals have given their opinion. If you are an LPN can you answer? DO you teach? Do admitt and D/C? notifiy the Dr. not the RN if an abn. or change in pt condition? Thank you.
  2. I am a new LPN and am a little confused on weither or not LPN's can teach. I have to do admitts and d/c at my SNF and want to make sure this is ok under my scope of practice (Oregon). My NPA (Nurse Practice Act) says "provide, under the direction of a RN, health care clients using established protocols, can someone disect this please! I am so nervous my facility is asking me to do things beyond my scope because I am so new I just don't know(first LPN job, start in a few days). I have so many questions, is it ok to call the Dr. intead of the RN like my facilities policy and procedure says when my NPA says collect data and in a timely mannor report it to a RN, ofcoorifice it also says communicate nursing interventions and responses to care to the appropriate members of the health care team. And develop work assignments, Is all this OK??? I am scared out of my wits and tend to phych myself out (as in right now) Does this all sound corect, will I stay with-in my scope doing admitt's, D/C's, (ie, teaching), Calling Dr.s instead of RN, and making assignments? I am sorry, I just need some support, I am so nervous and have worked so hard..as all of you know. I just want to do the right things. Please help!

  5. Ok so I should say, yes indeed I did pass! Got my results two days after the test from the "unofficial" results web site, then two days later:trout: my lisence was posted, and then four days later my lisince came in the mail, not to seem ung:thankya:raitfull but wheres my darn certificate to hang on the wall! (just kidding):icon_hug: :redbeathe
  6. ok so I just took my NCLEX-PN and it also shut me off around 80's (at 84 or 85). That test was the worst feeling I have ever had, I feel like I failed, I know everyone feels like that but I swear I could not decide a definate black and white answer on any of them. What a horibble feeling!
  7. oh I am so sorry I just looked on the pearson web site for the "unofficail NCLEX results" and your state of California does not participate, sorry for misleading you.
  8. :lol_hitti I am sure this is somewhere around what you feel like, however, saying that you should know that everyone comes out of the NCLEX exams feeling like this. (just a rumor, I take my NCLEX in one day,:sofahider :chair: ). The matter where the NCLEX cuts you of is insignificant. The NCLEX will cut you off when it determines that by 95% accuracy you are either to standard or not. Personally I think that chances are good with such a low number that you are to standard. How did you do on school exams? I know that everyone I have heard that took the test felt like they failed miseriably, but have hope, I am sure you did fine:pumpiron: . If you are really worried about there are a few things you can do:biere: , I know in Oregon we can look on our state nursing board web site and look up our license #, if california has such thing that would be conformation, also I think you can get results by paing online to the NCSBN (NAtional council of state board of nursing) site @ http://www.ncsbn.org um or it is the pearson web site (sorry, not sure) but anyway here is that web site: http://pearsonvue.com/nclex . Also I would make sure that your board of nursing has your official transcripts. I know my school said they would send my boards my official transcripts :smiley_ab but I found out from fellow students that they indead had to send their own official transcripts. Anyway this might not be your story but I'd check. Well that's about it, good luck, I hope you did great;) um, p.s. getting the last to questions right, means you got the last two questions right,... anywho:groupwelcome: Community of nurses, we are of one heart, and one mind. Good Luck!
  9. um I don't know, I might ask they if they are investigating it, and if not depending on their protocol for suspected abuse you would think that not only would they have to take care of it, but they should. If the proper authority finds out I would think there would be an outside investigation so it would be in their best intrest if they did. I don't know, mabey look into the your state statues on reporting to the proper authority. I live in Oregon and I think it is if your direct supervisior doesn't do anything then you take it above her head to the DON, but I would say if they don't do anything it is still by law your reponsibilty and your license to stake. Good luck, I am so sorry you sre in that situation.
  10. I tried to qoute you but I didn't know how. But I am responding to what you just said about the woman found in the same position a day later and the man found in the same incontinance a week later. Who are you trying to report it to? and why aren't they doing anything about it, that all definately sounds like elder abuse to me, you know mandatory reporting.
  11. sorry never mind:trout:
  12. :bowingpur That is so funny I was thinking the same thing, thank you it gave me a great laugh
  13. I am a new LPN grad starting her first job at a LTC skilled facility and I want to stay under my scope of practice, but the nurse practice act seems so ambiguis and it's hard to know if the facility will keep me under my scope. My summerized position states that I will be initiating and recieving calls to the Dr., doing admit, transfers and discharg, and developing work assignments. Iam a little unsure about those particular things as I feel like they are out of my scope, but I am not sure and too new to know, can somebody help me out? I feel so lost!:sofahider I also cant figure out what exactly it means to "under the direction of a RN teach utilizing established protocols?" I feel like I can't figure anything out right now ( I do take my NKLEX_PN boards in two days,......ahhhh:uhoh3: :smiley_ab , who's going to win,...I don't know!) Anyway, I informed my nursing director about my concerns r/t the admission and d/c being involved in the teaching role, and she said I could look at it like "giving instructions" vrs teaching. I also clarified my concerns about initiating a call to the Dr. vrs the RN when I established that there was an abnormal or change in patient condition, and she said yes that was what they did here at the facility and that as long as I gave the information to someone (in a position to do something) that the responsibilty was no longer in my hands. I thought I had to report straight to the RN and not the Dr. I just want to know that what I am doing is right so that I can feel confident in nuring care and staying with-in my scope of practice. Does anyone know, do these position functions sound right? I would appreciate any advice or conformation that I am staying with-in my scope, thank you, from a too new nurse, blardyblardyhelp!!
  14. I am a little confused on the exact skills allowed in oregon. I know it's probably been a question asked a million times, but I am tierd of trying to interpret the OSBN nurse practice act or try to find answers on the internet and not find any answers. I am a new LPN grad who will take my first job in a long-term skilled care facility as charge nurse. I am a little unsure of what I can really do and what they tell me I can do. For instance, listed on my position description one of my responsibilities would be to admit, transfer, and discharge residents as needed or directed; I am unsure about this because I think it would intail teaching which the board of nursing says (and very un-clear I might add:uhoh3: ) that I can provide under the direction of an RN, health teaching to clients utilizing established protocols....What does that exactly mean? My director of nursing told me that really LPN's do this all the time but that what I would be doing was "instructing" the patient. I also was very unsure when she told me that I would be contacting the Dr. vr's the RN with changes in patient condition, is this correct, shouldn't I leagaly contact the RN as LPNs can only "data collect" and the RN must do the full assessment. My charge nurse said that as long as I told someone in a position of authority (that ofcoorifice would also do something) the responsibility was out of my hands. Sorry for the so many questions (I have more), my teachers were not very helpfull when I asked them specific questions about scope of practice. What exactely does "contribute" and "assist" in the OSBN practice act mean, ie, an LPN can Contribute to the establishment of the nursing diagnosis or assisting in the identification of nursing interventions, does this mean help/add, does anyone have a specific example. Also, in regards to specific nursing skills, are there any nursing skills that an LPN can not do? I am pretty sure I was told I would be administering blood, giving IV pushes of NS, Mabey I am just freaking out ...most likely but I am practicing under my own license now and would like to stay with-in my scope of practice. Please help with any to all of the questions I realize I ask alot but I just really want to give appropraite leagaly accountable are so that I can feel confident in what I am doing. Thank you, blardyblardyHelp!!!!
