I have 3 recommendations for you to successfully pass the NCLEX. Try using Hurst Review. You can attend a live session or use her online review which is AWESOME. Marlene Hurst is a phenomenal educator. I first used her educational materials during Nursing Fundamentals. She produces a great audio cd on Fluid & electrolytes. Anyhow her online review is super & the most fun you will have studying. She and her staff use quite a bit of humor to get you to remember things and most significant, she has a 98% NCLEX pass rate for people that take her review. The website is www.hurstreview.com. In addition to using that review, two additional resources are the books Priority, Delegation & Assignment by Linda La Charity and NCLEX-RN 2008-2009 Strategies for the Registered Nursing Licensing Exam. You can get them at Barnes & Noble or order them from Amazon.com. Each one costs about $25.00. I have no doubt that with these 3 resources you will pass. The NCLEX is all about critical thinking. Yes you do have to know your core content but it is more about critical decision making because all of the answers are correct in the majority of questions, but there is one best answer and you have to reprogram your mind to answer questions from that perspective. The more higher level questions you get like the select all that apply and the proritization type questions you get etc., the better you are doing and the earlier the test will shut down. I can totally relate to your problem. I am having the same issue at my school so I have been teaching myself as well. There is a great book that I learned about from this forum that has been invaluable for me with the 1st part of Fundamentals in which I got an "A" and I am still using it for part II of Fundamentals and hoping to have the same success. The name of the book is "Fundamentals Success- a course review applying critical thinking to test taking" by Patricia Nugent and Barbara Vitale. It has Critical Thinking exams for every part of Fundamentals. So read the chapter in Potter and Perry, then take the appropriate exam and review the rationales for why you got the right answer right as well as the rationales for all the wrong choices etc. If you can get through these exams, you shoul be able to get through your Funadmentals Class. So far it has been working for me in spite of the teacher. I just go to my class to sign the attendance roster because our teacher is a complete joke so I can feel your pain.
