  1. Thanks everyone for your advice. Had an interview last Friday and had an offer on the spot! Woo hoo...I am so excited!
  2. I have 6.5 years of nursing experience (5 med/surg and 1.5 ICU Trauma/General) and for the life of me, cannot get in touch with anyone who follows through at Emory. I am board certified in med/surg as well as BSN. What is the trick to getting through to someone at Emory? I currently am with Wellstar and have been for my career and I have always wanted to work for Emory and move downtown. I spoke with one HR rep two weeks ago (didn't ask me my credentials only my experience and what I was interested in) and said she would fwd my information to a manager and to follow up with her in 3 days if I did not hear from her. Well that has been two weeks almost and I have not heard back from her even after I sent her a reminder email. Suggestions? Secrets? Thanks in advance.
  3. I sure hope so, I really want to work there as it's a great system and 6 blocks from where Im planning on moving
  4. I'll call animal control in AM and talk further with them, I just know if they go there, if its like he says they might take them away (Im thinking there are more cats than stated) and Id hate for the pt not to at least get to say bye to them (I know, stupid of me) but maybe they can call pt and get verbalization to enter home and take pets to board while in the hospital? Ahhh I dont know!
  5. I dont want to step foot in there lol...as told by the pt its in such disarray that I will want to run. Im actually humbled he would even say yes to us b/c APS has seen him in the past. Such a sad situation all around.
  6. social work referred me to APS/Animal control
  7. I called APS for other reasons. I dont want to risk my job/license..etc. I just wonder if I could get a police officer to escort myself and the other RN and they took a statement from pt that we could enter the home. The pt actually leaves door unlocked @ all times they state. Has anyone ever heard of this...police escort for something like this?
  8. you guys are right though, thanks for helping me see. I wish there was something I COULD do...is there?
  9. I hate this so much!!!!!! innocent animals having to starve/die because of stupidity!!
  10. I know !!! I hate this situation.......those poor cats. APS stated it could be 1-10 days before someone even comes out to see patient to assess...and animal control only will leave notes on the door. I know they will die w/o food and water. I just dont know what to do other than him calling animal control himself, and even then the probably cannot go into his home.
  11. Not finding much information...actually any. I have discussed with case managers and received advice against this.. My patient gave myself and another nurse permission to go into his unlocked home to check on his cats, he has no one its just him and his cats and he will be hospitalized for at least another 6-8 days. Is this against the rules? Mind you I called APS for my patient as he is neglecting himself/hoarding etc. so he will be upset when they do come and he will automatically think it was me that called since he warned me about his home before going. I really want to help these animals and thought we could go out with animal control. Its so frustrating on what we cant do for our patients. I know it's crossing the line, but I am such an animal lover and knowing these cats will be w/o food for a week is heartbreaking. Sure there's so many hungry animals but these cats I KNOW about. How much trouble could I get in really? Any advice?
  12. A nurse on the floor that I oriented lost her first patient today and took it really hard. She is an awesome nurse but she felt responsible (it wasn't her fault) but we all feel that way sometimes. What would be a good thoughtful gift for a nurse who loses a patient? Thanks!
  13. Has anyone here done the C.A.P (clinical advancement program) for your hospital...Im interested in hearing more about anyones experience...any insight would be helpful. I am currently about to begin this project and topic my partner and I have chosen is "team huddles" for our unit. I know most hospital systems use team huddles and its just a great way to start the shift with important updates and build the morale for the shift.
  14. Hi, I plan to start at KSU in the fall to finish up some pre reqs (chem 2, hist 2, spanish 2, stastics, american lit) and apply for the RN to BSN online program there. Does anyone know anyone who has graduated from this program, or currently going. I know the on campus BSN program is very difficult to get into, just wondering how hard the RN to BSN program is to get into. Thanks!
  15. I'm in the same boat as you so would benefit for some information about the Wellstar system. I'm out of state (NC) and moving to Kennesaw in August. Trying to get in with the wellstar system but their online application/email process, and phone bank system is inadequate I feel. I never hear responses from anyone and I never can get the number of the person I'm trying to reach. I've lucked up somewhat with a person on these boards that currently works at wellstar. W/O her help I don't know what I'd do!!! I'm just looking for information about the new grad orientation experience. How long is precepting and how well it goes? Are there any classes that you take as a new grad, etc.
  16. Also I've noticed that a lot of new grads get hired as RNs before they even take their NCLEX...how is this possible? They pass meds/do procedures and aren't even licensed yet?
  17. Hello, I plan on relocating to ATL (kennesaw) in Aug upon Aug 08 ADN graduation and I would like to have a job when I move...so....when is should I start applying. Would hospitals interview me early on, say months before I even graduate? Regardless of getting a job before I move, I'm still going to move I just hope I don't get myself stuck moving with no job and having to wait awhile after moving to get one since I will have no experience other than extern work. Thanks!!
  18. On KSU website it has an article about a program starting with the college in Jasper, it also says the program is for students who hold bachelor degrees in another area and are now wishing to pursue nursing. Does this mean that ADN students could not go into this program?

So I plan on moving to Atlanta after I graduate and take my boards in GA (I attend school in SC now) and am hoping to finish up my Bachelors in GA. I've heard how hard it is to get into KSU but does anyone know if people are having better luck for the RN-BSN option? I don't want to stay in my homestate any longer than I have to and I really want to finish up my bachelors (I only lack three general ed requirments, and then the NUR courses for BSN). I Know a lot of people say that Emory gives you a better chance but my gpa was only 3.4 so I'm not sure if I'll have any luck of getting into either program. TIA
  20. I'm a sufferer as well, I just watch what I eat the day before and during clinicals and days of class!
  21. That sucks, I may be in the same boat your in. I goto school in SC and plan on moving to ATL right after taking my boards. I'm hoping I can sit for my boards in GA and jst become licensed there....does anyone know of being able to do this?
  22. Are there any hospitals in ATL or surrounding area that hires new grads. Hospitals where I'm from require at least one year of experience. Just wondering if it's like that in ATL as well.
  23. In my area where I goto school (SC) you can bypass all the CNA testing/classes after you have taken and passed fundamentals and become an extern.
