  1. I have just had a positive PPD, my chest xray showed no infiltrate or effusions. A respiratory doc at my work suggested I take the INH. My PCP seems hesitant about it--but will give prescription if my work demands that I take it. So, I'm confused as to take it or not...I obviously don't want TB down the line, but I also don't want to ruin a perfectly functioning liver. I'm so confused.
  2. Hi everyone--I know this is an OR forum--but anyone have any same day surgery expereince? I'd like to know what it's like? what's scheduling like? Etc I'm thinking about moving to a new department
  3. Hey everyone...I've been working as a rn for 8 months now--and I am really beginning to feel discouraged. My floor is crazy busy and we are being short staffed all the time now! We are a cardiac/telemetry floor and the other day our patient load was 9:1---that's insane! That cannot be safe for our patients! and I know it is not healthy for us either. I have been trying to stick it out for a year--to gain experience--but I really feel I can't take it much longer. I'm thinking about switching to somewhere else in the hospital. I've been thinking about same day--anyone have any experience with same day? I feel like I'd rather have the patients come to me, do what needs to be done, and send them on their way, nevermind having the lives of 7-9 people on my hands for 13 hours. It's getting to be too much for me. Any advice?
  4. I personally went to Bergen Community College, but I work at Mountainside Hospital. I went through orientation and a few certification classes with rn's who went there--and they all seem to really know their stuff. So--as far as I can see--it's a good school. =)
  5. Thanks so much. I was offered another position at the same time and was going back and forth with which one to choose. I felt that this one would be most beneficial to my career long term. I can def use the skills and experience I'll get on this unit no matter where my career takes me.
  6. Just wondering why people are viewing but no one is replying to my post.
  7. i just got my first job!!!! it's a day shift on a cardiac unit at mountainside hospital. it's a busy floor--but there's lots to learn and lots of experience to gain there. i tell myself that everytime i get too nervous and freak out, lol. a fellow graduate of mine got hired on the same unit in august. so, if he can survive, so can i! right? lol anyway---just wondering if any cardiac nurses have any advice to offer a newbie?
  8. I recently interviewed at St. Barnabas Medical Center, and I know on the sheet they gave me with all their information (benefits, sick days, etc.) they mentioned it. I don't know what departments or any details, check with them. Hope this can help.
  9. i was officially hired for my first nursing job last week!!! i don't start until the first week of october, because i just missed their orientation for september. it's a day shift on a cardiac floor, i know it will be busy, but there is also lots to learn and lots of experience to gain! so, in the long run it will be great for my career. (that's what i keep telling myself, when i start to think i'm crazy for taking it) also, a fellow graduate of mine is working on the same unit and started in august. so, i feel good that if he is surviving, than so can i! i'm happy it's a day shift--i feel if i took a night shift my sleep would always be outta wack. and my commute is less than 10 minutes, which i love!! anyone have any suggestions for a newbie???
  10. so...i took my nclex this morning..shut off at 75. is this generally a good thing? know of anyone failing after 75? i did tons of q's to prepare, and can say that i know i got 2 right. ugh---don't know how i'm gonna deal with waiting for results!! i try to keep thinking positive, i never failed in school and passed the hesi (our exit exam) the first time--which supposedly means you could pass nclex. so--hopefully i won't start failing now.
  11. It's great to see such good posts about St. Barnabas. I am a new grad and have recently given them my resume. So, I'm waiting to hear back from them. I've heard good things from former patients and families and now employees---yay! :loveya:
  12. Hi there...:) I'm not sure where you live, but I just graduated from Bergen Community in Paramus. It is a great program! Many hospitals in the area love Bergen graduates. I applied once and got accepted. I do, however, know of some people who had to apply several times. Before Bergen I tried to get into Rutgers, but wasted my time and not to mention money for 2 years. Bergen is less expensive and still provides a great education. Perhaps having a degree will be beneficial. Apply to a couple schools. Good luck!
