I am in the NP program in Southeast TN. We have to cold call offices/clinics as well. What we do is that one student will call and see if they are accepting NP students. If they are, I would state that there is another student wanting clinical time as well. I begin the conversation with my name and that I am an NP student at such and such university. I am interested in precepting at your facility. Are you accepting any students in August? So far I have had good luck. I have also lined up my peds rotation that is occurring in January! Call them at midterm to remind them by saying, "I am progressing well in the program and wanted to tell you that I will be able to precept in January." Hope this helps!

I just took a new position a couple of months ago and now I am in a whirlwind of what to do and how to do it. You see, this facility didn't have an educator for the ICU's for a couple of years. So now that I am here that want/need it all! A critical care course, quarterly courses and skills day. I have no materials!!! I know the stuff and have a planned agenda. But it's the details that are lacking, like powerpoints, handouts, etc. Where do you all find all this stuff? I have a few choice sites that are helpful. And I need appropriate competencies too. HELP!!!
