  1. There are many great agencies out there and many would be delighted to have you, most likely. Core Medical was a great one for me. They don't always have all the bells and whistles everyone else did but the one to one attention was INCREDIBLE. Hope you find an assignment and Agency that is right for you! Best, rn_imw

The flip side of having the really big RV's is to have a really small one like I do. I have a 21 foot'er and it does everything I need it to. Depending on the work parking spaces and so on, it gets good enough gas mileage I can easily use it as my "main" vehicle also so don't really need a new one.....Of course, if I want to keep it someplace as my house and not use it as a vehicle, I can have the Nursing Agency rent me a car as part of my contract. I really like it because it doesn't cost much more than a regular small truck to drive around and drives about the same. Sadly, though, I am also limited on how much I can do with it as my back was injured. Still, I have my "dreams" of "travel nursing" again......So, we will see. Best to all, rn_imw
  3. Thanks scarta for your reply. I would also like to encourage you to join me sometime at the Pain Foundation. There are some wonderful boards there like here for posting. They NEED all the support they can get for those who do suffer. I miss my 16 year plus Nursing career.....I was always the, "I have a strong back for my size" one......the one who just *KNEW* I would NEVER be injured....Well, guess what? A year of living with a knife in my back, I now KNOW better. Sadly, this chronic pain is not a joke...For myself, I have much intolerance to opiods.....In fact, when I was young they once tried me on Morphine and stated I was allergic to it because I literally broke out in a rash and got all itchey....at least I didn't get anaphylatic shock! So, I can take very little for this pain...which is another reason I really want to see H.R. 1020 pass so that the Research can be done and more of our Country can be helped. Join us Scarta! Would love to see you add your two "cents" at the boards there. We need YOU and people like you! Thanks for speaking out, Iris
  4. Just returned from Maryland where I received Training at: www.PainFoundation.com There are over 75 million individuals who suffer from pain. One person may be limited in what they can do, but working together, we WILL make a difference. Please become familiar with and write your legislators NOW regarding HR 1020. You will find much more information at Pain Foundation. Pain Foundation is seeking to work together with anyone who is associated with pain. Read about their legislation actions and you can find out the information yourself. My story is the following. Please take a minute to share your story. You will find my story in length at this site! Please let me know if I may answer any questions or be of help in any way. We CAN bring forth better Treatment Modalities for Pain working together! My story: After a 16 year Nursing Career, I was injured taking care of our Veterans who are my Heroes. In previous days I had rushed to individuals homes when doing Hospice to help fight the enemy of Pain. These days of "patient care" had been replaced with knife searing pain which was to become chronic. I joined ranks of the Silent Epidemic of over 75 million people who are effected by pain. The enemy of Pain was known well in my own personal life. It didn't take long to find out that most Medical people are not prepared to assist effectively with Pain issues. HR 1020 is a bill that will make some real differences. How? Doctors will be educated in Pain Control methods; Research will be done and Treatment for Pain would be National Public Health Priorities. Write your Legislators today and ask them to be Co-Sponsors of this bill. With loving support, Iris M. Wilde R.N.
  5. Good question! The situation is that there IS a problem out on the Street with Medications being abused. The further situation is that this War to clean up Improper Medication use is being used AGAINST those who suffer from Pain. I am going to put another post under separate heading so that ALL may know of an important Bill that Pain Foundation.com is working very diligently to get passed that will make a HUGH difference. Please don't get discouraged from the entire Nursing Field, Hon. Your HELP is desperately needed. My career has been robbed from me because of the enemy Pain......but I am working every way I can to help others who are suffering from pain. Please know that YOU will be a voice that can make a difference! Blessings to You always, Iris
  6. Before my back was injured, I had a wonderful 16 year diversified career....did a little bit of everything from Floor Nursing/E.R./Travel Nursing and Hospice. One "funny" story that I always think of is when I was a new nurse we had this sweet woman who had Dementia. This sweet woman was also a retired Nurse. We had to watch her like a Hawk as she would go from patient to patient and attempt to take out their IVs because she was "helping them"........I can't help but laugh thinking of this....Who knows when we retire what we might be like? *smiles* Here's to the Nursing Career and ALL the Nurses that give so much, yesterdays, todays and tomorrows!
  7. Thanks for posting.......I hope others will also. I have wrote to both of you individually. It is sad that so many Nurses have been injured but feel that they are alone in the world....'cause it just isn't so........There is a GREAT group that has been formed now...it is called WINGS..........If you want to know more about it, let me know or do an online search of your own. I would love to hear from either of you and anyone else that might wish to respond at any time. Thanks so much, Iris
  8. First, I don't know if you have a license to practise Nursing yet or not. My guess is that YOU may. In which case, I would suggest checking out Legal Nursing........Also, there is also the avenue of pursuing Holistic Nursing and possibly going into something like (don't know title) Hypnotist Nursing........IF you are NOT licensed, there are also other Avenues such as EBay sales........there is a Franchise site online also where you may fill out their questionnaire and they will then tell you which Franchise would be best for you to get into based on your needs.......ie stay home, finances no or however much you wish to invest and so forth. If interested, drop me an email and I will forward the INFO on to you. Take care and let us know what you decide to do if you do anything at home! Best!
  9. Are there any nurses out there who have sustained back injury? Would you like to share your story? Thanks.
  10. Laying aside all the legalities, which in fact cannot be laid aside at all........but just for a moment........I have ONE question.......Does this mean that in PUBLIC Ceremonies when Police/Fireman AND Paramedics are noted for their honorable services (which they SHOULD be) Nurses will also be given like recognition??????? WHERE would America be without the Nurses that care for its people? Yet, how many times do you hear a Public Thank You to Nurses????? Very seldom! Thanks for letting me have two cents here...... :caduceus: LETS HEAR IT FOR THE NURSES!
  11. Your message here is timely. PLUS, when you add in the factors of the high percentage of injuries that Nurses do sustain from unsafe working conditions.......it is AMAZING that the public simply does not understand the "shortage" as some type of "propaganda" used for the benefit of those insurance companies and Hospital Executives.....and at times, even the Government itself.....What will change? How can it change? Will Americans continue to keep their heads in the sand as Ostrichs or open their eyes wide and begin working for the betterhood of every Nurse that sacrifices so much often on a daily basis. We recognize Fireman/Police/Paramedics....as well we should.....but WHEN did you go to ANY ceremony other than graduation or Nursing Week Ceremonies (which is often a sad subject within itself) that recognizes all the sacrifices that Nurses make?????? I am joining you on the soapbox.....and even starting my own thread about Injured nurses.....because it DOES happen....and even here on this site I can find very little about this........I can always bring forth the facts if anyone is truly interested in them. Nurses need to know what they are getting themselves into and what little support will be made available to them should they become injured! The "shortage" of Nurses will continue as long as nurses continue to let themselves take this abuse even to the point of being injured themselves. It is time to make working conditions safer......and to stand up for what is right for the benefit of all nurses. Thanks for having the courage to do so here.
  12. Nurses and Nurse Students, Some of you have already walked this path. You give your all for our beloved patients and sacrifice time and again. Then, one day, what you thought would never happen does.....you are injured on the job. Suddenly, you may find yourself with very little support.......If there are nurses on here who have been injured, I would LOVE to hear from you. I would like to see more support be given to our Injured Commrades.....Believe me, after 16 years NEVER being injured on the job, I realize how quickly this can ALL change and we become injured and unwanted in our life's profession that most of us have sacrificed greatly for. The place we are working at may not let us change over to clinical nursing for many reasons......inavailability......never having worked in that area "before" and they don't want to help us go there now....many things happen to the injured nurses.......I would be glad to share my story thus far and definately would LOVE to hear yours! The likelihood of nurses being injured is extremely HIGH....so take a minute...do something good for yourself (Yeah, you! The caretaker who often takes care of yourself LAST).....don't hide your head as an ostrich.......you owe yourself the favor of knowing the facts regarding injury and the nursing career. Post me/email me or contact me in any way you would like to. Thanks, The Bird with the clipped wing
