  1. I've just recently begun thinking of HI for permanent work, not travel. What are the long-term prospects like? I'm a 20 yr BSN with mostly med-surg and most recently a neuro focus. Would be coming with 2 kids.
  2. dd self-weaned at about 14 months when she bit and I reacted and scared her... she went on a strike and I tried for a month to win her back but she nursed only one more time but had too many other new skills to keep her busy I guess and I was heartbroken! ds weaned one week after he turned 3... up until then he had cut down to an occ. bedtime session the three of us still co-sleep most of the four nights a week they're home with me
  3. Yes, I do. I resent a lot of things about this profession. It depresses me that if I continue to work the floors as I do now that in 20 yrs I'll be making barely more than those 20 yrs my junior. It angers me that I am the eyes and ears of the doctors and the one responsible for keeping the patients alive yet I'm the first to get eaten alive by the patients, families and doctors for every little thing including a cold meal, a late lab draw, an unwatered plant or a broken TV. I spend half my shift calling every dept. in the hospital making sure every other person does their job as well as doing my own. I track down missing meds, undrawn blood, misplaced x-rays and dropped urinals. My list of responsibilities goes up with every passing week but my salary certainly doesn't reflect that now, does it? I have told my kids over and over to never consider nursing as a career choice. The only good thing is... I'll always have a job. Woohoo.
  4. I'd be open to either... whichever would keep me gainfully employed!!!
  5. See, that's what I don't have a good feel for... I don't know what the marketability here will be like. I'm hoping like you say that it's an untapped goldmine, but I have my doubts being in the midwest. And my ability to move to a more profitable area is hampered because of my kids and the divorce. I'm a Research alum! Did the 4 yr joint program with Rockhurst back in 83-87. I've heard nothing but great things about their accelerated BSN program... good luck!
  6. I wish! No... I'm a divorced mom of two young kids working full time every weekend and stuck in Kansas! If I can manage it financially I'll probably do an online program, quite possibly University of Phoenix Online (that's what I'm researching at least). UCSF is only a dream of mine! *sigh*
  7. I have recently come to realize that there is a MSN available now as a NP in Integrative Health/Holistic Nursing... I may have finally found my niche! Now, can anyone tell me more about this field of nursing? How marketable do you think it is/will be? The thought of going back to school terrifies me! I need some good feedback to help me decide whether this is the route to go. ~Thanks!
