  1. Someone inform me that even though I live in NYC, that I can be a "Travel Nurse" in NYC and they'll pay my rent or pay for me to live somewhere in NYC. Is this true? Also what is the dollar amount that you get for being a Travel Nurse.
  2. Aldephi is the only school I believe require Chem 122, everyone else such as LIU, Molloy, and NYU all you need is Chem 118 and Chem 121. You just have to decide if you can't get into BMCC program, which school you'll apply for and take the Chemistry you need for that particular program.
  3. I just talk to a lot of my fellow students on the phone and they are ready to get started this Sept. We all are excited and want to get this over with. I can't wait to graduate, I feel we all going to be successful. At my school, if you pass the first year (passing Med surge), most likely your going to be a nurse. I'm going to do the samething and prepare for the NCLEX.
  4. When I was applying to different nursing schools, Chem 121 and 118 is the Chem they wanted to fullfill the Chem prereqs. Thats was for ADN or BSN programs
  5. You don't need a PDA, I wanted one but I couldn't afford it. Now, I realize in my last semester I never needed it. All you need is a small pad for pre and post conference, drug book, hospital shoes, uniform. I always had a pen that went around my neck, that way I never lost it. That list above only cost me $50. Most students get the scope that cost only about $50 to $70, and they are good enough to pass you through school. Maybe you should wait and reward yourself with the more expensive scope after you complete school.
  6. I can't believe this is my last year, I know it will go by fast. Also Med Surge is over with, so class won't be as intense. Which school do you go to and is your last year is suppose to be alittle easier?
  7. I don't think they suppress any grades on your transcript. They usually send all your grades. You have to make sure that SMVC will accept your highest grade before you transfer there. There are other BSN programs, Molloy, LIU, Adelphi and others.
  8. Wow, I apply to Stony Brook also. I also apply to LIU, however there 2 yr bach program is only 2 or may 3 days a week. But Stony Brook is that much of a difference. Also were you a volunteer that help you get accepted in the program
  9. Thanks so much for the comments. I didn't know that many others had problems deciding between NP or PA. I think I'm going to finish my BSN and then decide. I live in New York and then want to eventually move to North Carolina. I heard Duke has a nice program in PA and NP. Someone mention a combine NP/PA program.
  10. core0, Thanks for the info, I just sent you a PM. Yea that make since, unless I have a Nursing degree. There is probably no transition program. The school I'm going to is a Bach PA. I have the GPA and all prereqs done. I wasn't even thinking about it until 2 days ago I saw I qualify. It cost $21,000 a year at this school. But as for the cost of getting the BSN, it will cost me nothing, I have a scholarship. But I'll have to pay for the NP program. Wow I have a lot to think about.
  11. Thanks for the info, I was just looking at those posting when you send me that message. However do you know any PA to NP transitional. I can go right into the PA clinical for the next two years instead of getting a BSN. After reading those posting you sent, my goal will become a NP. tab65
  12. I was going to LIU in New York to apply for the BSN program with the intention to become a NP. However to my surprise I qualify now for the PA program. I was wondering instead of attending the next 2yrs and have a BSN. I should pursue the next two yrs and become a PA and then go into the NP. I wanted to specialize in Surgery or womens health. After I get the PA if I went that route, I'm willing to relocate if someone has a transition program from PA to NP. I can't find one online yet. tab65
  13. I was planning to go attend LIU for the BSN program next Semester. However I just decided to look at the Qualification for PA. To my surprise I meet the qualification. The only problem is I wanted to be a NP and a PA encourage me to be a NP. She works at Sloan Kettering an was over a entire dept for bones. It look very impressive, but she said NP can do more. Also If I went for PA, is there a transitional program for NP? tab65
  14. I like that NYU accept anyone prereqs. If you don't have a Non Medical Bach degree and not applying for the accelerated program. I'll choose NYU because, Pace Basic BSN program is 3 yr clinicals, CNR is 2 1/2 yr clinicals. But LIU an NYU is 2 yr clinicals
  15. Does that accelerated program is for someone who have a Non medical Bach. degree? Or is it for anyone who has the 60 credits?
  16. The only draw back to me about the program is the Nursing phase is 2 1/2 yrs instead of 2yrs. Thats why I'm going to LIU.
  17. Hello, It depends which school your going too. I'm applying to LIU. I need 8 prereqs. However, I'm taking 5 (Che, Micro)this spring and the other 3 courses I'm going to take the CLEP test. Then that way I don't have to take classes in the summer. Wheeeeeew! Because I suppose to start the EMS FDNY Academy in July. I would check out schools like LIU so it will be a little less demanding on you.
  18. I just called 'Mount Saint Vincent' and they told me. Regardless I have a high GPA, they only take there students who started there prereqs there. For example, Sept 07 was fill last year Nov 06, they told me I can apply for 2008. But most likely I won't get in.
  19. Yes, I'm in the same boat. I'm currently at BMCC and if I pass these 3 CLEP courses during the Semester Break couple with the courses I'm taking this fall. I will complete all the prereqs, I spoke with the counselor there and they told me first come first serve. Its a roll in system as long you complete everything they require and past the test having a 2.7 GPA. But I'm curious just how hard LIU program.
  20. That was my only concern, what hospitals you have to work for. Because I want to move to Charlotte, North Carolina the day I'm finish with school. The plus side is that after 3 years the loan is guaranteed to be finish. Sometime we can linger on and pay the minimum of the loan and it can last for years. But I thought they mention on the website that it can be any under priveledge Hospital. That will give here more of a choice. I hope I get this loan though. LIU is $21,0000 a year and NYU is about $27,000 a year. To me thats alot of money, but I want this Degree even if I have to take out a loan. Its worth it. thomas
  21. Thank You so much for that info. Everything helps. I'm planning on moving to Charlotte NC, soon when I finish. I'm going to inquire at there hospitals do they have (pay back programs). If not I'll stay here another year or so if I have to and apply for a hospital in NJ or whoever have it. I'm not going to make any money this year so I'm going to apply for every nursing grant I could apply for. I just heard there is a program that they'll pay your entire tuition, books, equipment, etc. You'll have to work at a under priveledge Hospital, but allow you to select the hospital. I'm going to apply in January for this grant right away. I understand what you had to do. I would of did the same thing. Living expenses in New York is very expensive. Two months left and your DONE. I can't wait to get to that point. thomas
  22. Hello Everyone I read that many of you are going to private school, such as:Seton Hall, LIU, NYU, etc. However are you getting some kind of grant to pay for it? Are there nursing scholarships to help us pay for that high cost. I read the ETP program at Columbia that somehow they pay for about 80% and there cost is about $68,000. If they have one, I know schools such as NYU should have some kind of scholarship to. thomas
  23. Thanks alot for the response. I know more and more I can get into a BSN program. My GPA is 3.5. The funny thing is I know several students who have 60 or more credits but won't apply for a BSN. I think if you have the credits, you might as well go all the way
  24. Does anyone know the GPA to get in at "College of New Rochelle". Someone told me 3.8 but I think thats a little high.
  25. If you call this number 1800-221-9393. They will pay your entire tuition, Lab, etc. You just have to be accepted into a nursing program. Also you have to agree to work at a under priviledge hospital for two years. The up side is, you choose the hospital. If its a private school, this might work to your advantage since they can be quite expensive. For example, NYU is going to cost me $920.00 a credit.
