  1. I applied for the PMHNP program. I'm a psych / correctional nurse for almost a year now. Been doing this since I graduated 1 year ago. No, I don't know the criteria. I new I wanted to be a psych NP after working with psychiatrists and being around the population of people with mental health issues.
  2. I just checked my application status and that was it. It said "Admitted" rather than "Under Review"
  3. I'm in! I got accepted into the PMHNP program! I already have my myaccess account and completed the financial aid info. The next big decision how my family and I (wife and daughter) will survive for the next 2 years living on a limited budget again =( Oh the sacrifices....
  4. The only reason I see for them accepting more MEPNs is financial. They are able to charge more due it being "accelerated" in nature and receive a commitment from them upon licensure to complete a masters. This ensures a seat for the next 2-3.5 years with guaranteed tuition payment. It can't get any better than that from a business perspective. Unlike us traditional MSN's, we are only there for the minimum of 2.
  5. So did any straight MSN applicants hear back? Mine has said "Under review" for the longest time. MEPN's already got their responses and acceptance but I guess we're filling in on whats left over. There doesnt seem to be a big crowd here who already have their RN license and are trying to go back in.
  6. Be forewarned that getting into the military as a nurse is just as competitive as getting a job as a new grad out there. It's no longer a "last resort" but rather a privilege to be selected for a commission. For example, in the AF nurse corps....last year there were 300+ applicants for selected 40+ positions. If you're truly interested, theres a long line in front of you =D
  7. If they are calling your references, that means you're hired (as long as they speak highly of you) =) Ray
  8. the fingerprints are done on your first day of work, if you are hired.
  9. I'm applying for the PMHNP at UCSF for Fall 2011 -- I Wonder how competitive it is. Anyone else?
  10. I was recently hired there. I have some Psych experience and love to work in this type of setting. I think if you have a passion for working with the underserved then you will not have a problem getting a job in correctional.
  11. Not at all. I filed for chapter 7 2 years ago while I was in nursing school and have not had a problem finding a job or graduating. Do what you gotta do, my friend....
  12. Those of us Psych Nurses who are working for the 2 largest Psych organizations, what do you think the future holds for us? I particularly work for a PSI hospital here in CA and would be eager to hear some opinions on what the merger/acquisition entails. Any comments are appreciated.
  13. Interview went well! I got a call about a week later for a tentative offer. Of course, I accepted! Now for the waiting game for final approval. I did find out the details and they said I will be rotating. Unfortunately, being a the bottom of the ladder, I have no choice but to get my time in. In the process though, I expect to gain valuable experience. I'm excited! I guess I will be moving soon after all! =D
  14. Just got an interview for this place, hence the bump up....Can anyone give comments on this place? ANYTHING HELPS!
  15. caihong, sorry to say, but its not like hospitals are handing out jobs anyway so if I were you, just continue looking around for jobs and apply for them. its a tough market out there. I've been unemployed since getting licensed, 2 months ago.
  16. has anyone else heard from them? the suspense is killing me
  17. i sold em to interested parties.....any takers? jk
  18. Got a panel interview on Friday. We will see....God's plan always prevails and if it's his choice for me not to work there, then so be it. May He lead the way....
  19. nowadays, its not even about luck or doing well at interviews. Merit and background are out the door. It's not what you know anymore....but WHO you know. If you know someone, you'll get hired from the back-end. It sucks, but its the truth.
  20. With the job market being so stagnant for us new grads, I've been exploring the possiblity of going back to school. I graduated Dec 2009, currently working per diem and have not had any luck finding a new grad acute med/surg program. With that in mind, does anyone know any MSN programs that DO NOT REQUIRE EXPERIENCE? I'm not looking to move out of California, hence, this is in the California forum. I'm looking for a school IN CALIFORNIA, preferrably in Sacramento or Bay Area. Can anyone help?
  21. which FNP program accepted you without experience? I thought FNP programs require RN experience.
  22. Thank you, Lord -- my name just showed up at the CA BRN just now -- I'm an RN!!! Took it Friday 18th, "good pop-up" and now, TUesday 0200AM - I'm a new RN! To God be the glory!!
  23. Any test takers from Friday have their name show up in the California Board yet? I got the good pop-up with 265 questions and swear that I failed...but since I got the popup and not the CC screen, I'm thinking I passed but my name is still not up yet. Is it too early?
  24. Joshua, The point cutoff this sem was at 66. It is this semester that they've had the most applicants EVER. I got in with 68 points so I barely made it. I do look forward to going in as a transfer. GOod luck! and maybe I'll see you on campus. -Ray
  25. I'm starting Sac State actual Nursing in Spring '07. JHU doesnt start until Fall '07. This means that I have a couple of months to decide whether to stay or transfer. As far as equivalents...I am not sure if they will be credited at JHU.
