Just never forget to keep striving for that connection and interaction of which you speak... it is the most important, least encouraged part of our job.

A friend looking for another position within her hospital was telling me about how everyone who has tried to leave the unit has been given a negative or mediocre assessment by their nurse manager. According to her, the manager is trying to hang on to the staff they have and won't help anyone to leave or better their career. This seems very wrong to me - and possibly VERY damaging to the futures of the Nurses she may be disseminating misinformation about in the interest of her staffing. This could affect decisions for jobs or raises years down the line... Is this defamation of character?

Hi everyone! I'm here & I passed the NCLEX - the city is great! Seems like the perfect mix of city with country hospitality... Thanks for all your help. I am living around the Audubon area which is home to a very nice looking Norton facility. I haven't been in town long, but when my parchment arrives, I think my search will begin there. Thanks everyone! You've all given some great info! I just this past week was blessed to meet a lovely RN from KY who led us through our NCLEX -RN review and also had some great advice. I'm getting ready for my move (maybe the Highlands - ?? Any other suggestions?) And am definitely applying to Norton and am interested in Kosair or perhaps the Psych (I don't know the name yet) hospital. I hope to run into one or all of you along our paths!! Thanks again guys!!

Actually, I am looking forward to getting back to my roots.. I am originally from NC and hoping to get some peace and quiet and good Southern hospitality! (and some good Southern cooking as well!) Thank you so much for your reply! Sounds like a wonderful place... I'll be there October 1st and can't wait! Now I just need to pass the NCLEX and apply to Norton! Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I have searched and searched for information to get me started but hadn't come up with much... This really helps. I have always thought I'd go into peds - but my clinical rotation was less than ideal - so I'm still leaning in that direction but I want to get some med/surg under my belt before I decide. I also hear there is a lot of alternative medicine in Louisville - might enjoy that as well. What about yourself? Oh, one more thing - do you see many male nurses in KY? Thanks again!

I am a nursing student in NYC who will be graduating in June. My SO has gotten a job offer in Louisville and I was wondering what the job market, hospitals, salaries were like in that area. Average starting salary in NYC is 65K - I imagine I will not get that in Louisville... but how much of a decrease are we talking? How are the hospitals and working environments in Louisville? Are the hospitals state-of-the-art? Supplies? Other staff shortages? And does anyone know about internship programs - how often they're used? Offered in most hospitals? Length? Any other advice you may have is very welcome!! Thank you!!
