New Corpsman to allnursing.com site!
Welcome to allnurse's, I followed a simular path as you seem to be taking except mine was on the reserve side of the house. And I got some bad guidance that met the needs of the Military and College recruiters along the way. I am an AS degree nurse trying to go into informatics after 10 years of clinicals and I have lost a lot of oportunities because of my AS degree. I am proud of the work I have done and credentials I have obtained but, had I the chance to do it over I would go the BSN right of the bat. I would enjoy my time as a Corpsman be proud of the heritage you have become part of--watch out for the 88404 designator for the Fleet Marine force unless you are looking for combat experience--if you are keep your head down. Then use your VA benifits to go for your BSN, it is worth it and will keep more doors open in the future. Former HM1 and 1stLT Brian (Gulf War Veteran)

Lost in the Cyber clinic
Hello rninformatics, Sorry I left the thread hanging but, as an update. I actually made the leap of faith into my Masters Degree in information Systemes Management with a concentration in health care. I am taking courses on line and so far the course descriptions and content either meets of supasses the depth that the MSN Informatics would take. I am really looking forward to the integration of my talents.

Lost in the Cyber clinic
Hello RNinformatics, I am in the process of deciding to attend Grad School and would be interested in getting your opinion of a program I think would fit my goals, but I don't know if I can post the name of the school. The program is a Masters in Information Systems Management with a Healthcare Information concentration. I am an ASN with a BS in Electronics and do not feel the need to chase down the BSN/MSN path to validate 10 yrs clinical experience in a career path that would not be in direct patient care. What is your feeling on this?

Lost in the Cyber clinic
Hi rninformatics, Thank you for your words of guidance. I notice you are "Board certified Informatics". How did you earn the ability to become Certified? I am in what I see as a unique situation but, I have to believe that others are where I am in my careers. I have 10 years clinical experience and 9 years of Telecommunications experience woorking with databases. Now, I want to help improve my original work environment by the implementation of technology with workflow process in mind. Unfortunately, I meet more brickwalls than windows. I will of course keep looking at the bricks to see if I can create my own window--Spectrum will be my next stop. Again thanks,

Any Navy Hospital Corpsman out there?
I was a Reserve HM(8404) with an ASN so when the Navy told me they were not interested in me obtaining my BSN and becoming a Navy Nurse I made a huge mistake and jumped to the USANC-Reserve. When I was activated for Desert Storm, man I wished I stayed in the Navy. I would have felt safe humping through the Desert with a platoon of Marines then I did with the medical unit I ws with. Is there anyone out there who served as a Warant Officer Nurse in the USN? I was to take the 6 th such billet, according to my recruiter, but Desert Storm got in the way.

Lost in the Cyber clinic
Nurse informatics is the field I believe I belong in. I need to find "the right place at the right time" that I have read about in the posting by our colleagues unfortunately I need to find it "right now". I have searched a number of job sites and I am just not having the results I am looking for. Does anyone know of a place on the web that might have job posting for this field?

Do i have to have a MSN
Hi, I have been insearch of this type of confirmation, about the need to persue my MSN or not. I have 10 years clinical ER experience and 9 years of high tech communications experience. I have an ASN and a BS Electrical Engineering Tech. I was looking to the future to enter the informatics field but now find myself--forced to rethink the speed to reach my goals. I really appreciate the guidance you provided one another and look forward to my own journey into the field.
