Hello everyone! Well I was a traveling Nurse and worked the ER @ NHRMC! I loved it their the Dr.'s are great to work with and the staff treated me like if I was one of them! I even signed on full time after my assignment then had a personal tragedy in my life and moved mback to missouri! The ER is Very very very Busy so if you want to learn alot and get some great experience this the the ER to be at! Every ER needs yung blood and Nurses who are willing to work! And the town is just beautiful! And the town is growing leaps and bounds! Good Luck!

Oh Stop St. Louis MO is Horrible TRAFFIC! Wilmington NC is the next thing to Heaven, I was a traveling Nurse for 2 years and traveled and Wilmington NC is the nest LITTLE Hollywood. I am DON of a LTC and I love it here I drive across the river from Wilmington and you are in the country and close to the BEACH too! I love this area!

Well, I notified NCBON and believe it or not! A ward Clerk can check in Narcotics! As long as there is some type of accountability. More pressure on the DON and if you can trust the Ward Clerk! Thanks to everyone who helped me get through this hurdle I am sure I will have more to come!

Well, as for as banditrn and applying for the DON Job. Never wait until tomorrow cause tomorrow may not ever come. I think it helps having all the credentials to be a DON, but seeing how LTCF are ran I think it does not matter as long as you are a RN with Management experience. Since I am a SEASONAL NURSE, I should know better to make this comment. But, after losing my 13 year old son in August of 2004 to a ATV accident. I know all this stuff we worry and fret and argue over means nothing. It is only someone proving who has the most POWER or MONEY in some instances to make it right! So you know what I mean when live like today was your last, and go for whatever you think the Lord wants you to handle. God, put us on this earth for a purpose, if it was only for 13 years for some than, Thank God for giving you that time! Most Nurses want to be honest and follow the Nurse Practice Act, but we have Administrators and Owners that do not understand our Practice Act and feel Ward Clerks and Aides or smarter than Nurses so they make policy's that Seasonal Nurses have to question??? Thanks for all the responses I have contacted the State I live Board of Nursing and gone to the DEA site. So hopefully I will get the Answer! The pharmacy the LTCF uses I was told by the Administrator we do not go by their policy we go by the LTCF Policy that they have had for 16 years! Which is let the Ward Clerk check it in!!!!!!!!

I need to know if there is some kind of regulation in checking in Controlled Medications. When the medications arrive in the locked red tote from the Pharmacy that supplies this Long Term Care Facility, can a Ward Clerk check in the medication from the transporter or should the red tote only be opened by a License personell LPN/RN. Can a medication tech receive controlled drugs if not a Assisted Living Facility. And if it is a Assisted Living Facility they can receive Controlled Medications! Gosh! I am a new DON for a LTCF and I never realized all the Regulations and things that can occur in a Long Term Care Facility, being a Hospital Nurse for 30 years, I have met a interesting field of Nursing. If anyone would like to share some resource books so I can read and become more SAVY in all these regulations let me know ASAP! Thanks

Gosh! For a short moment I was hiding under my computer table! I thought you were working for me.... Hang in there, I too am new to LTC and I am a Senior of 30 yeays of Hospital Nursing and specialized in OB and TRAUMA ER. Just a different kind of trauma here in LTC! I brought life into the world and now i get to see life leave this world! We have to remember nurses are special and we have to all stick together! You know the rule See one, Teach one, and DO ONE! Well in LTC i think it means Left to Cry! Cause when you see 20 t0 30 residents to pass meds tooo and someone gives you a 5 minute breifing and then you never see them the rest of the day what else could you possible do but CRY! Any ways hang in there!

Hello Everyone! I am new here, and a new DON, I have been a hospital nurse for many moons and I have been working as a DON for the last year and I have had to train myself at both facility's I worked. I know that the Surveyors like us to stay at 2.2. But how in the world do they come up with that number. Can someone please give me a lesson in math on how to figure this. I have a 215 bed facility. No ADON, NO SDC, 2 MDS coordinators and a shortage of nurses. Am I crazy lol! More like stupid I think... Oh and besides all that I have a female Administrator who own the Business and is the Administrator/DON (LOL). I micromanage but am trying real hard to accomplish this task before i throw in the towel any suggestions . or maybe prayers or a Stawberrie Daquari night might help! Anyways show me how to calculate the nurse staffing ration for LTC! Thanks
