Hi! Will be starting to work on a long term psych unit, soon. I was wondering if patient response is better if the RN wears scrubs or street clothes and the reasoning behind it. I am allowed to wear either.

All of the previous advice is great. In my case, I painted myself into a corner with psychiatric and substance abuse nursing. Jobs in that sector do not seem as plentiful as in med-surg nursing. If I had it to do again, I would keep my hands in medical-surgical nursing because there are so many areas that you can work such as travel nursing, ER, ICU, home health, forensic,legal, case management, etc. You need to take a long look down the road and see how you can use your med-surg knowledge when you no longer want to work the floors. If you have great skills and experience, you can write your own ticket as you will be more marketable. Good luck

Hi! I suggest watching your coworkers in action, if you are not in the middle of it, and see what you like that they did , said, etc, and then compliment them on it. Taking what we like and giving the person credit is a great morale booster and friend maker. My best nursing memory was when, after a crisis, a peer complimented me on the way in handled an emergency, under stress. Good luck and God bless! Hi! This was the first question I saw and I felt furious and sad because I am a seasoned RN and I want to teach CNA's, but because I do not have a BSN, I have found it a fruitless search. With the high rate of baby boomer's reaching the age where they will need care, the demand for well trained CNA's as well as RN's is going to reach a crisis! I have decided, at the ripe old age of 64 to enrole in a BSN program so that I can pass on the gift of an excellent training that I was given 42 years ago. I may be too old to work at the bedside, but I still have a lot to [/url] offer. There are so many of us well trained nurses out there who could be of use for teaching purposes, if the requirements for teaching were not so great. Anybody else out there who thinks and feels the same way?

Hi! All! Considering becoming a "snow bird" from MA to FL in winter. Main specialty is detox and psych. Are there any places that accept short term placement during the winter? Can't do clinical nursing any more due to some health problems. Any other specialties that might be more conducive to a "seasoned" RN? Any ideas/help would be much appreciated. Boston64

Hi! I was taught that another way of verifying the systolic number was to palpate the radial artery while the pressure is coming down. You should feel the beat at the same time you hear the first beat. If you are limber enough, you can do both at the same time. Hope that helps

Hi! Just came across your question. I know you are all set nowm but I thought I'd respond anyway. All you need to do is contact the MA board of Nursing, send them your info and the renewal fee. It is imperative that you keep the board aware of any address changes or you will not receive your notice of license renewal. I know because that happened to me and I had to write them a letter with my license number, etc., to have them change the info in their system. Also, you need to keep records of the contact hours that you earn for license renewal. In Ma, we need 15 contact hours every two years. You don't have to send them a copy of the certificates unless they request them.Hope that helps...
