  1. I did the Mt. State LPN-BSN program and I would not recommend it to anyone. They will tell you that it is 2 years long - it's actually 3 1/2....they will tell you it's only 1 night a week - but the last 2 years it's one night a week AND every weekend AND extra "on your own time" volunteer work. The cohort programs are a disaster and I would not be surprised if the entire thing didn't get shut down in the next few years. Edit: Oh, and it costs 40,000 +
  2. 1 more bump
  3. bump...
  4. Thank you both for the response! I'm bumping this thread in hopes that more Buffalo nurses will see it. MFS sounds REALLY interesting and is going to be close to the area that I will be moving to. Could you give me more information about it???
  5. I could not agree more with the original poster! I graduated from LPN school in 2005 and came across this "AMAZING" program that would be "2 years, one night a week - and you'll be an RN, BSN" - that 2 years & one night a week turned into 3 1/2 years and 2 days a week, not to mention the hundreds of hours to be done "on my own time" - all while working 40 hrs/week - because this program was "made for working LPNs" - it's a JOKE! I graduate in April - thank God, but it has been a REAL disaster!
  6. I have a question for Nurses in Buffalo, NY. I have been working as an LPN for 4 years - I have experience in Trauma, ER, Cardiology and addiction treatment. The same year that I graduated from LPN school - i started my LPN - RN, BSN transition program and I will graduate in 3 months. After graduation, I will be moving to Buffalo - I was hoping some of you could give me some advice. Where are the best places to work? (i will be living around Amhurst / Williamson? area) From internet searches it looks like "Sisters" is a pretty solid place to work - but I was hoping that I could get some advice from the people who live it. Also if someone could advise of the starting pay for an RN, BSN in that area - I would really appreciate that, as well.
  7. Oh wow - I wasn't aware of that. LPNs are OVERworked in this area. When I worked in the ER - I did EVERYTHING that the RNs did - including given IV push meds. There were 3 things I couldn't do: Hang Blood, Take Verbal Orders and Push Cardiac meds - other than that....I was responsible for it all.....only I got paid 1/2 the pay that the RNs do....it sucked! I'll be glad to be done with school in 8 months!!! :)
  8. Wow - we really are in the same shoes!!! My mom has said those exact words to me "this too shall pass".......it just gets OLD - I'm sure you more than understand that!!!! Where do you go to school?
  9. I go to Mt. State University and it has been disasterous - we were kind of the guinea pigs in this area for the program.....I'll just be glad to be done with it in 8 months!
  10. I am in an LPN to RN, BSN program currently with 8 months left. A friend of mine went to an ADN program when we got out of LPN school - so that he could finish is RN more quickly. He graduated in May of this year - and we graduate in April of '09 - on a daily basis or more he tells me that he wishes he would've gone through the BSN program with us.....we went through our programs and compared our classes and I think a big difference is the research, ethics, management & leadership type classes - they did not touch on these in his program and we had entire semesters on them.
  11. I graduated from LPN school in January of 2005 and began an LPN - RN, BSN transition program in November of 2005 - I literally have been killing myself - working full time and still carrying the full-time class-load. The school advertised the program "for working LPNs" - well that's a load of you know what! So I work 40 hours a week, go to school for 4 hours every tuesday night(after I've worked 8 hours that day) - then EVERY single Saturday have 12-hour clinicals.....I have a test every Tuesday....have roughly a 30 page care plan due every Saturday from the previous one....so on the 4 hours that I have available 4 nights a week and on Sundays(my ONLY day off) - I have to do homework.....LPN salary is terrible in this area and I'm just getting really tired of it - I'm half tempted to start waiting tables or bartending - I'd make more money and would probably have better hours.......I have 8 months left out of the original 3 & 1/2 year program- someone encourage me to get through it!!! :)
  12. WOW - I wish LPNs in this area made anywhere close to that. WV LPNs start out around $12 an hour in the hospitals.....I'm sorry last month - they bumped it up to $13.......I can't wait to be done with school!
  13. Do you not like the hospitals? I started on a Trauma Unit and I saw basically EVERYTHING and ANYTHING come through. I was really able to learn and work on my skills - we had trachs, pegs, every drain imaginable, wounds, wound vacs, every type of dressing imaginable.....it was a really good experience.
  14. About $39,000 :chuckle I am in my last semester of LPN - BSN school....boy has it been a ride!
