  1. Hi, there Obtaining my father in laws censes # has proven itself Unbearably difficult. This is a very long story … of individuals in the early 1940’s changing birth certificates which made locating my father in laws birth father very difficult. It took many years just to locate him. Once he was located it was found that he was deceased. Then the bureau of Indian affairs (records) in fort defiance directed my father in law to another records department on the reservation at ship rock. Here he submitted his original birth certificate, his father’s death certificate and was told that he would need his father’s census #. The remaining families members of my grandfather in law did not have nor did they know where to find this information. Do you have any ideas of how to proceed? We do have my father in laws mothers’ census number but without his birth fathers # we seem to be at a dead end. If you can help me at all, PM (private message) me here. Ultimately our goal is to register my father in law, all of his children and their grand children as the grand children end the line at 1/4 . We would like for our children to further understand their culture and be catalysts for future education for their families and communities. I even attempted to directly contact the Navajo nation via email to Joe Shirley and his administration to no avail. Any help or suggestions would be great. Additionally, on a personal note, do you know if there are community outreach programs on the reservation where I ( once I graduate in December) may be able to provide nursing/community/support needs to individuals on the reservation? All of your skills and knowledge in these matters will be met with eminence gratitude and appreciation Sincerely, Katherine Shirley
  2. JaeDream, You should always go for your dreams. It had always been a dream of mine to go to CU an now I am @ UCHSC SON. I also worked full time, and have 2 children. My GPA from CCD was 3.82, after This was amazing to me I. I about killed myself to get it and then find that most of the people I have spoke with had a 4.0. Just a little tip. Your essay is crucial. Have a memorable essay, and keep your grades as high as you can. Good luck and always keep your eyes on your dreams.
  3. I have seen that there are a lot of people talking about the wait lists at community colleges for the AS Nursing degrees. I to went round and round in circles trying to find the right one for me. What I ended up doing is placing my name on a waiting list and then continued to take all of the prerequisites for a BSN program. I finished all of the prerequisites and was accepted to University of Colorado at the Health Science Center before I ever heard anything about being accepted from a waiting list. I guess you have to decide if you want to wait 3-4 years to get into a program that will last 18mo to 2 years or just go straight through and get a BSN degree in 4 years.... For me I did not want to wait 3-4 years to start a 2 year degree I am now starting my Senior year in the fall. Total time from start to Finnish will be right at 4 years.
  4. Are there ED nursing internships in most hospitals? What is the best way to find an ED internship for a student nurse?
  5. I am not sure that anyone can help me but here is the situation that we find our selves in. My father in law is 100% Navajo but we can not find his fathers census number as he never knew him. We have looked through the roles and have his families information and some of their census #s we have been told by the enrollment office that we have to have his #. Without his census # my father in law cant get his, my husband cant he his and we can not get census numbers for our children.... any suggestions?

  8. I am trying to decide if the cost of NP education is worth the final outcome. I guess what I am asking is if w/the salary of say ER RN vs salary and cost of education of ER NP is it cost effective to obtain the NP???
  9. Has anyone had any experience with Newman University in Kansas. I live in Colorado and there are no programs here. I am trying to decide where to apply and I am hoping that someone has insight into Newman.
  10. i would also strongly recommend a pda so that you can download things like dosage calculations, medication guides, med interactions and so on. it just makes getting to the information sooooo much easier
  11. I would agree with profession. I don't understand the question "is nursing a practice or a profession." I think you practice a profession. (Doctors practice medicine, lawyers practice law, etc) In the paper Nursing ethics and conceptualizations of nursing: profession, practice and work in the journal Philosophical and and ethical issues, authors Liaschenko and Peter. They are concluding that nursing should only be defined as work rather than a profession or a practice. I guess the difficulty that I am having is that I disagree with them. I see nursing as a profession where within this profession you practice your knowledge and skills, and of course work. The strict definition of nursing as only work seems to state that nurses could be compared to any trade even such trades as a garbage collector, landscaper, and other trades that do not require a defined acquired knowledge through many years of education.
  12. Hi there everyone, My name is Katherine I am currently in my Sr. year of a BSN program. I have wanted to become a CRNA since the birth of my first daughter. I have run into a snag though. I live in Colorado were there are no available programs. All of the bordering states have programs. Many of these programs allow students to attend their institution for the first phase and the allow me to return to Colorado to complete the second phase. I am married and have 2 children, do you think that it is doable to leave for a year and return home to finish. Do you think the reward would out weigh the burden? I really want to do this I just need help to find the right direction.
  13. I am currently a nursing student I am in my Sr. year of BSN. I am really intrested in Native American nursing. My husband is 1/2 Navajo and our 2 daughters are 1/4. Can anyone steer me in a direstion of obtaining more info.
