What would you do?
I just started a job at a Pediatric Clinic through and agency and everything has been wonderful. I love this job and the people who work there. Yesterday around 4 or 5 I started feeling awful..chest congestion...never ending cough...high fever. I finished work and went home to sleep it off. I woke up this morning and felt a little better but still had a fever. I called my agency and explained the situation and said I felt I shouldn't be working around kids and babies with a fever and with how I felt. Well an hour later my agency lady calls and sounds very irritated and says well I called the clinic and the nurses are going to have to work together to take care of your doctors appointments that day. She also wanted to know if I was feeling better and if there was a chance I could go in. She was not very happy with me I could tell...Anyways I never get sick..I never call in sick. I just happened to get sick the second week into my new job!! How would you guys handled the situation? Would you have went in? I know it looks bad now to everyone and the doctor I work with that I called in sick 2 weeks in..I don't want them to think I am unreliable.

A little nervous about agency nursing...
I just had an interview with NurseFinders and everything looks good at the time. However, I am a little worried about my lack of experience as a "3" year LPN. I just moved and worked on a Postpartum floor (my first job) for the last 3 years, and I did not develop many skills that I could use in my advantage on say a Medical Surgical floor. My recruiter is aware of this and states that I will be fine. She has set me up for an orientation next week for a Rehab floor that deals with things I have not been exposed to. I was just wondering what are some of your experiences with this agency? Where you just thrown into an area or were you given a day or so orientation to become famililar with everytyhing. I am a little nervous because I would like to expand my skills, but I do not think I would be to comfortable getting thrown into something. Thanks for reading this!

LPN interview for OB unit
I have been working on an OB unit or MotherBaby Unit for the past 3 years and I'm an LPN. Our floor is made up of mostly RNs but they do hire LPNs when there is an opening. I personally love 3 12 hour shifts. It sounds like you are already in the OB world working at a clinic. However working on an OB unit in an hospital you have alot of admissions and discharges, so alot of teaching!! You will have do regular assessments, give meds, help with breastfeeding, draw any labs that are ordered and may more things. Oh and deal with family members. But it is a good job most of the time :) Good luck :)

calling out on christmas...
This is why they give us sick days. I would not feel guilty at all, you had a valid reason for calling in sick. I cannot stand people who think it is their business to make you feel quilty for calling in. I called in sick once after 2 years of working at my job, and one nurse felt it was necessary to inform me that she had to come in because I was not there. Foolishness. If you are sick, call in, as long as you have a good reason and do not go over your sick days.
