  1. Wow. Where do I start.
  2. I can't find anything online that really explains what it is though.
  3. Help a nursing student out please! :-) I know it's a test to see how much fluid is being retained and it's supposed to be
  4. Second semester student here. There's no specific brand that you need as long as it's all white. Get whatever has the most pockets and is most comfortable. As time goes on, you'll need to carry more and more stuff in those pockets.
  5. No. I'm in the program now. Family night: You bring one family member. They take your photo for your I.D. tag, you buy your patches for your uniform and they answer questions about the program (uniforms, classes, times, clinicals, etc.).
  6. I know you're gonna hear a lot of info from a lot of different people about the TEAS. For me; it was a whole lot of worrying for nothing.
  7. Show up on the first day of class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There were only two alternates that showed up and they both left early (who knows why)....they actually had to call people to fill seats at the beginning of this semester. Can you believe that?!
  8. I've been working on Saturdays only. I know a few other classmates work upwards of 36 hours still.
  9. Usually it's an 8-2 thing...plus studying. Some days you have to be there at 730.
  10. First quarter of first semester goes something like this.... -First 3-4 weeks, you're involved Monday through Friday. -When you start clinicals the 4th week, depending on your clinical site, it will be school m-t off wed (but you go to clinical sight to pick patient and then have to do prep work) and clinicals either thurs only or thur and fri.
  11. Got my teas score this afternoon too. I did well. Now it's official!
  12. Has anyone else recieved their TEAS scores yet? I took mine on Saturday, and they said we should be able to view them by Monday morning, I haven't seen anything yet on the website.
  13. Read through this entire post, I detailed the points. As to your second question, the simple answer is "no". You can only apply and update once a year now at cypress.
  14. It was mentioned at the end and it's on the paperwork you were initially sent. Sat. 8am-noon TE3-222
  15. Go there and talk to them. It's a lottery system. However, if you're not picked after three semesters you are guaranteed a spot.
  16. So, yes, it is a lottery. But you are right, one is guaranteed a spot after waiting 2 1/2 years.
  17. Yes. When my study group and I took Micro at GW we were studying for 3-4 hours every night. Some girl that was sitting behind us goes, "I'm not even trying hard, GW is lottery, all I need is C's." It made us so mad. I wanna go somewhere that at least recognizes academic achievement in their selection process.
  18. I don't know why but on my above post, it didn't put spaces between the number of students and percentages, anyway, I'm sure y'all be able to figure it out.
  19. Please, Please, Please, don't pick a school based on those criteria. You want a school that will best prepare you to pass the NCLEX and be a good nurse. Both schools have a high drop out rate. I've done most of my classes at Cypress and I did Pharm and Micro at GW. These are pass rates for GW and Cypress for the last few years, from rn.ca.gov. The first box is the number of students who took the test from that program, the second number is the percentage of those students who passed the NCLEX. Golden West 11391.15% 10390.29% 123 93.50% 172 87.79% Cypress College 6595.38% 9298.91% 79 97.47% 100 94% As you can see, the pass rates at Cypress College are quite a bit higher. With the narrowest margin at some %4 and the widest deviation at about %8 1/2. Like I said, hopefully you pick a school based on quality, not ease. You have to know that it's gonna be hard, that you must commit everything for 2 years and that you will NOT be one of the ones that drop out.
  20. No, it's required before you start your clinicals the the third week of the first semester.
  21. Then you should have gotten an acceptance letter. You may want to make an appointment with a counselor to make sure all your points were accounted for.
  22. The points at Cypress are calculated as follows: Anatomy Max of 5 points for A (3 for B, 1 for C) Physio Max of 5 points for A (3 for B, 1 for C) Micro Max of 5 points for A (3 for B, 1 for C) Plus you get an additional 10 points for having ALL of your G.E. work done. For a total of 25 based on academic coursework related to an ADN. Now Cypress (and other schools) started this new program that they were forced into by the state. At Cypress you can get an additional 5 points based on the following: Need to work (must prove that you worked while taking the pre-reqs.) Socially and/or financially Disadvantaged (EOPS, CARE, TRAC students) First of your generation to attend college. Veteran Status Courses that may be advantageous to you in the program (Intro to Nursing, Pharmacology, and Counseling were the ones mentioned to me) Fluency in a second language. At least 300 hours of work or volunteering in a health care setting. So, with the extra, there is a max of 30 points available. I have either 28 or 29 points and received an acceptance letter. I was told by one of the health science counselors that there are people with 25 points who received a letter (some, not all). I was also told that if you get an alternate letter, then go to everything and be prepared to start; and that a great deal and sometimes all alternates get in. Hope this info helps.
  23. I have 28 or 29 points. Which two classes do you still have to take?
  24. Go ask the Health Science Counselor, I'm sure she'll have the answer to both your questions. From what I've heard, in the past, a great deal of the alternates get in. People choose not to accept the spot, people drop, etc.
  25. I hope you make it. I was told that the alternates usually get in. Just make sure you do all the stuff.
