  1. I heard there is one coming up at Beth Israel Continuing education, it's gonna start June 1st and will be every monday night for 7 weeks.. Good luck
  2. Hello, I have worked as an agency nurse for a year in Paris, basically there is 3 major agencies in Paris: Quick Medical Services, l'appel medical (Those 2 have jobs and agency almost every part of France) and JBM. They find you "missions" from short term (1 day) to several weeks. They can cancel you last minute (and they will not pay you) and they can call you whenever they need you. you can give them the day you want to work..I guess it is basically the same as England and US. The pay is slighly higher than hospitals (i would say around 1900euros a month) but you don't get pay for vacation. I was working with 2 of them to be sure to get a full schedule..and worked alost every day in a different unit and a different hospital! Hope it will be helpful, if you have any other question le me know! By the way I think there is a mistake in the previous post the pay is not 16000euros a month!! I would probably have stayed in France otherwise!!!but 1600euros...
  3. Hi, I have a french degree and am working in NYC. You need to go through the CGFNS CES they will evaluate your credentials and send that to the board of nursing. The board will give you the right to take the NCLEX-RN exam. I got my licence for NY. The process is taking a while (18months at least) Good luck
  4. Hello, I am a french nurse working in NY. As you've been told you need to go for the CGFNS and NCLEX-RN. Usually french nurse don't have any problem getting an authorization to take the NCLEX-RN (but be prepare to be patient because it's taking quite a while..). Once you're done, you're not going to be able to do travel nursing, you need to get experience in a regular unit and I can tell you that it takes some times to adjust yourself depending on the unit you're working in and especially if you havn't work for 5 years. Medical language is not that far from the french as they both are coming from latin and meds are not too different from France either but you definetly need to learn the "familiar" name of lot of stuff! If you need any information, just PM me, I'll be happy to answer you C.
  5. Hello, I am a French nurse working in NY..I have been working in Paris for one year before moving to NY. If you have any question, let me know, i'll do my best to answer.
  6. Hi Virginie ! Bienvenue... I am a French nurse working in NY. Bad news for you for the visa and the course that you need to take! If you need anything you can PM me..
  7. I am interestered to know wich hospital you are speaking about. I did an internship at the Beth Israel in 2005 and at that time they sponsored foreign nurse and they still propose it on their website!! Thank you!
  8. For me this is true!! I have my RN licence since April and don't need a green card because I have an "employment authorization". After posting my resume online in hospitals website and speaking with some receptionist and nurse recruiter, "I am not competitive enough" even if I studied and worked in a european country.
  9. Hello! Welcome to allnurses! I'm a french nurse living in the US. First of all you have to know that it's going to be a very long way..you will need patience, time and money! This is the link to their FAQs where you will find some informations: http://www.bne.state.tx.us/olv/faq-Nclex.html#faq25 For what I understand you will have to submit a credential evaluation of all the classes you had during the nursing school, you will also have to take one of the english test.If the BON approuve your credentials you will need to take the board exam (NCLEX-RN) If you don't have the green card I guess that you still will have to go through the visascreen process with the CGFNS. I had to deal with the CGFNS and I really had a hard time so you'd better go for one of the other organisations that can do the review!! Good luck!
  10. Hi Thank you for your answer chuck1234. I had worked few months in an ICU and that 's really what I want to do. I've applied to nyp because they definetly have a bunch of job in this area but I understood they are not really fast to answer your application. Wsmith16? i applied at Mount SINAI online and when you are applying for a position they ask you a bunch of question like do you have a BSN? Do you have 2-3years experience and if you answer no you are geetting an automatic reply that says that you don't meet the requirements (1 year experience don"t seem to be enough) Still looking, anyone heard about a job fair soon? Thank you
  11. No problem, let me know when you have an answer! Thank you very much for your help!
  12. Sorry for the mistake chuck1234!! Thank you very much for your help, I will keep my fingers crossed tomorrow for sure. In fact I have a visa for 5 years and I'm only here since 1 year!(and it will certainely be renewed at the end of the contract of my husband) But I don't know it's maybe more convenient for the employer to have somebody with a green card!! I look forward to ear from you and thank you for all you're doing and the time it's taking! Hyacinthe
  13. hello everyone! good translation NYdreamer!! I dropped my resume this morning at the presbyterian employment office as you suggested Chuck1234, they did not propose me an interview, the receptionist just took the resume and that's all. Do you know how long it usually takes until you have a feedback? Thanks Dudette, I'm going to PM you!! Another question, I posted my resume in the MoUNT Sinai website but when I tried to apply for a job, they ask you if you have you're BSN or 2 years experience if you have do not (I only have 1 year and few months experience), you're receiving an automatic email that say that your application is denied!!Are the nurse there all BSN or experienced?? (no new grads??) Have a great day Hyacinthe
  14. thank you for your answers! I actually work next door to the nyp employment office as a P/T school nurse for the french high school, so thanks for the advice, I'm gonna try it tomorrow! Any advice on what to say during the interview? I also placed my resume on several hospitals websites, I really hope something is going to work, Hyacinthe
  15. Hi chuck1234!! thanks for your fast reply, I was actually looking at those ones because I'm living on the upper east side. I wanted to try theses ones first and I thought that bigger hospitals also mean more positions to fill..but I might try smaller ones before and move from there as you said!! As for the agencies, I would prefer to avoid!! as I already did everything by myself(CGFNS, BON) but if no hospital reply, I will have to go that way!! Do you have any idea about where I could apply? Hyacinthe
  16. Thank you for your reply, I do have an EAD. But I was a bit suprised to read on the websites of some hospital that you have to be educated in NYS! I know that lots of nurses from Philippine are employed here but there education has been made in english. I'm going to try to apply to nypresbyterian, mount sinai, lenox and sloan and we'll see the answers i will have! Do you know if nypresbyterian hire foriegn nurse because that's the hospital I woul really work in? Hyacinthe
  17. Hello Some of the NY hospital seems to hire only NY educated nurses (like nypresbyterian), is it truth? What hospitals in Manhattan hired foreign nurses (I did my nursing school in France)? I really would like to stay away from agencies!! What is the best way to get a contact (and a job!!!!) ( fax, job fair, register online on hospital websites)? Thanks for your help, Hyacinthe
  18. I think that you're not going have any trouble finding a job in France because there's a big shortage!! As you're licensed from UK, you 're supposed to be able to work everywhere in the EU but you will have to take a French language test (and if you're already fluent, everything is going to be just fine for you) You should be able to find all the information you need at the beginning of this post! Hyacinthe
  19. Hi everyone, I'm a french nurse living in NYC and just get my RN licence here. I just wanted to add a couple of things to that thread. The first one is that Dudette whose the travel nurse in the south of France said that she's earning 1950 euros per month (wich is pretty good in France), did not mentionned that when she stops working for a month for example do not get payed during this month!! That's why you get pay very well when you decide to do travel nursing. Another thing that is very different from the US is the taxes, you do pay your taxes after you get your salary. Here in the US, the taxes are already taken when you receive your salary, in France NO!! To answer one of the questions, to work on your own as a 'infirmier liberal' you need to have a 3 year experience and no matter who is the future president, I can tell you that you will definetely work more than 35h!!! And finally, I find it totally unfair for the US nurses that they have to go back to school when they want to work in France, I can tell you that they learn much more then we do!! (except maybe for the practice side) Hyacinthe
  20. Hi suzanne, I called the CGFNS and ask for the supervisor and explain everything. She finally told me that the report would be issued in the 10 days and one week after my call I checked my account and saw that it was issued (almost 10 months after my application). So I wanted to thank you for your help and advices.:wink2: I'm now planning to work more on my examination. I use Saunders review book, can you give me some tips for the last few week before taking the exam ( I hope!!)?
  21. thank you very much Suzanne. I am currently dependent on an E-2 visa. Is my EAD enough to work or I am supposed to do the visascreen before begining to work? Because I am confused since the CGFNS post online (august) that even the AOS will need the visascreen. I will try to get in touch with the supervisor of customer service on tuesday. Thank you to reply to all these posts, hyacinthe
  22. Hi everybody, I began the CVS-NY state in november 2005 because I knew I was coming in March 2006. The CGFNS sent me a mail in February 2006 to inform me that the process started (3 months after receiving my application and fees!!!!!)and can takes up to 6 months. They send 3 letters to the licensing authority before having a response, the only reason was they were sending it to the wrong people!! After few hours on the phone with France, I obtained from the licensing authority (they do not have the diploma number) that they transfered the CGFNS paper to the right service in an other county!! They send back the form to the CGFNS on July. He takes for the CGFNS up to one week between I can read "receiving the doc" and "ready for submission". And now, they are telling me that it can take up to 2 months and a half to be send to the NYS! This is only a summary of the nightmare ! I live in NYC, have a SSN and have not practicing since 6 months (I only get my degree one year ago).I am going to work in a pastry shop, how exiting?? I am tired to call the CGFNS and talked to unkind people who didn't care and didn't even answer my question. I sent regular mail to the CGFNS, they told me they didn't receive it, I sent an email and never get any answer. At least I thought they were sending doc in French, that was in english. So 300$ for what???sending 2 letters? Since they don't analyse, transcript, they need 45 business day to verify that these doc are coming from France?? I have an EAD but if I want to have the green card, do I have to apply for the visascreen?? Is there any other manners to obtain visascreen ? I saw one day the name of the manager of the customer service of the CGFNS, do someone remember , I will try to send her a letter via FEDEX? I was thinking about writing an article for METRO or AM or others but what? I would like to know if I can pass the NCLEX in an other state since I have my SSN?? Thanks for your answers Hyacinthe
  23. hi, I'm a french nurse and I'm actually waiting for my credentials to be verified but I'd like to know if I will be able to do a master in few months. Will I be an associate degree nurse or BSN-RN??? Thanks for your help!!
  24. Hi, I am a french nurse and came 3 days ago as a dependent on an E2-visa. I sent my application for the NYS-CVS in nov.2005 (but not for the visasceen) and also sent also an application to the NYS board of nursing. Actually I m waiting for an employement authorization. Is it possible to work as a nurse with an EA or do I also have to apply for the visa screen program ? and I ve heard that it might be possible to work as LPN if I have to wait too longer for my CVS??:uhoh21: Is there anything else I can do right now??? I also have an other question. Can I work as a volunteer in an international organization even if I don't have an EA??? can you help me a little bit because I m lost. thank you .
  25. hello, I am from France but live in NYC since wenesday. Is there any other french????
