BSN to NP - I'm SO lost!!!
Hello All! Need to pick your brains. My Deans of Admission & web searches are coming up DRY! I'm finishing up my BSN in December 2008 (yay 1.5 to go!) - anyhew - my concern is my next step to becoming a NP specializing in Geriatrics. I receive information constantly from web online programs, but now there's the new news of Doctorate of Practice PRE practioner? Gulp! That's a TON of more school. (not too mention the cost!) What's my best move? What's my NEXT move? Do I study practioner VERSUS MSN? Or HOW does this system work? Y'all are SO appreciated. I adore this site! Amanda, RN

Maxiscope Ultrascope? Good/Bad???
Hi there - I just ordered the maxiscope - I'm not really in need of anything TOO flashy from a design standpoint. Am I to assume (in reading other posts), that the maxiscope is the SAME steth as the Ultra (just without the design patterns/engraving?). Can I get a good solid blood pressure w/ this thing or what? I am so SICK of hauling around my monster Lidman Cardio Steth for quick head to toe assessments... I'll keep it on standby for those important apicals, but honestly... it ways like 3 lbs and is HIDEOUS! I'm SO hoping my new maxiscope will do the job - quick, accurate BP (no machines at my clinic: )! ) and some easy bowel sounds... any thoughts?

? About not breastfeeding
The breast or not the breast - this is the question. Sure! Breastfeeding is the best for baby (and even mom in most cases - quicker pregnancy recovery due to hormones). However, no nurse, md, or caregiver, in my opinion have the right to look down on mom for making a different decision. Often, surgeries, inability, and medications are at play, but personal choice is ALSO something to be regarded. The nurse doesn't know moms situation - perhaps pumping, freezing milk, staying home w/ baby for ever beckon call ISN'T in her parenting plan? It's mom's decision. That's final, and I, as a nurse will ALWAYS respect moms decision first before my own feelings override.

BSN to MSN or BSN to NP?
Thank you so much. Just WHAT is the difference between the BSN, NP and BSN, MSN, NP? More patient cares & less diagnostic w/ the MSN? I have heard of some that attain their BSN to NP and LATER obtain an MSN? At that point - why would one bother? I definitely am more drawn to the diagnostic, pharmaceutical side of things, and LESS of the day to day cares. Perhaps I've answered my own questions and the BSN to NP program is best suited for me? Thanks for the help!

BSN to MSN or BSN to NP?
Still currently just an RN student, but trying to prioritize my future collegiate requirements. I have been told that a BSN to NP program is possible (goals of family practice CNP) - bypassing the MSN. Does anyone have a recommendation on an advisable order from BSN to NP. Should I attain my MSN prior to NP or not? Why do some? Do I NEED to have the MSN first? I am SO totally confused! Does it affect job placement/salary? Any advice is appreciated.
