I currently attend this school, and if I could go back in time, I would not choose it again. When I was researching programs, there were not many student reviews available, so I wanted to share my experience. The program itself is very flexible when it comes to assignments. If something comes up or you accidentally miss a due date, professors are generally willing to work with you and offer grace. However, there are essentially no live lectures. One professor simply reads directly from the textbook, while others may provide a short 10-minute prerecorded video highlighting key topics. My biggest complaint is the clinical site requirements. The program will not allow inpatient clinical hours other than 50 hours during the final semester. They also require 180 pediatric clinical hours, while many other programs only require 90. Pediatric urgent care and emergency department settings are not accepted toward those pediatric hours because the university considers them outside the scope of practice for an FNP. I find this frustrating, especially since every nurse practitioner in my hospital's emergency department is an FNP, not an Acute Care NP. The university states that it will assist students with finding clinical placements, but that has not been my experience. They also seem to have difficulty keeping the clinical placement coordinator position filled. I recently contacted my field coordinator regarding concerns about securing a pediatric site for a rotation that is only five months away. Every pediatric office within my hospital network, covering a 50-mile radius, is already booked through the Summer. The response I received was essentially, "We'll help when it gets closer," or "You may need to take that semester off." Neither response was particularly helpful. Overall, I feel the cost of the program is too high for what students receive. While the flexibility is a positive aspect, the limited instructional content, restrictive clinical requirements, and lack of meaningful support with clinical placements make it difficult for me to recommend this program.
