Thanks for the extra information and side note in your earlier response. There's so many details that it's hard to keep track of it all. That additional discount does make Ohio appealing and I agree that the BSN shouldn't be too stressful or expensive - I'm way overthinking this decision. Thank you and to everyone else for adding to the knowledge base about Ohio vs ASU. I'm so looking forward the Fall semester with you all.

I filled out the form to be contacted for more information on both schools' websites. Both have been very responsive to my questions. Here's OU's list of admission advisors: https://www.ohio.edu/admissions/online/online-admissions-advisors Good for you pushing back and not making a decision. These are big decisions for us.

OMG. Thank you for sharing! I feel like I've had tunnel vision and have just been so focused on which school to pick, that I've completely ignored looking into the courses themselves. I've emailed Ohio to ask about their capstone clinical affiliation requirement, but based on what you shared, I'm now leaning towards ASU. Yes, I did.

I'm so sorry. You also put a lot of hard work towards this career and it's incredibly discouraging when efforts aren't rewarded. I know it sounds cliche, but don't give up. I gave up several times during the past several years; the last time I tried again, everything lined up and worked out in my favor. <3

Funny, I'm also considering a PHN cert. I received word from Ohio about this - they do offer the NRSE 4541 course specifically for CA students to satisfy the 90 hour requirement, BUT they haven't offered this course in a while due to low demand :( My enrollment coach at ASU didn't have an answer about whether not ASU has path for this. I emailed Edson College directly and am waiting for an answer. There are plenty of good reasons to go with SJSU! I believe they are the second cheapest option for a BSN, after Ohio U. The 3-in-1 package deal is a huge plus. When do you need to notify SJSU of your decision?

You are welcome! After typing up my response to you, I think I'm leaning more towards Ohio now, so thanks for your post - it offered me some clarity too. And thanks for creating this page! It's been nice to connect with everyone throughout this whole process. I've been reading other forums and it seems that another option would be to hold off on the BSN while getting the RN, graduate, and then find a job with a site that would cover the cost to get the BSN. I debated going this route but it's not a guarantee that I would find an employer that would do this, and I've also heard that it's harder to land a job in the Bay Area with just an RN. I'm also so looking forward to being done with school and think I'd rather get my BSN over with while at I'm at EVC. I agree with your thoughts about SJSU being in person. I didn't get picked but had been concerned about the heavy workload. At least with Ohio, semesters can be paused. Lots to think about. If anyone else has decided or have other information that you think everyone can benefit from, please do share!

Congratulations! That's exciting news but I also understand your hesitation - having to make a decision with so many factors to take into consideration is not easy. I did a lot of research while waiting for CEP letters, so I don't have advice but I can share what I found. This costs for EVC and SJSU assume you are a California resident and may be different now, as this information may have been from previous semesters. Please verify these numbers for yourself. According to the EVC RN website, the total cost for the entire EVC-SJSU CEP would be $16,618. You'll be taking full semester length classes at both colleges for four semesters, taking 12-15 units each semester (split between the two), with a full load at SJSU during the 5th semester. The EVC two year RN program is $4,584. I've been in touch with reps from both Ohio University and ASU. Both schools do accept transfer credits and the information below is purely just for the cost of tuition for the required courses to get the BSN. Other fees are not included in my calculations. Ohio offers the Early Start RN to BSN program. Ohio would be the cheapest option if you want a BSN. They charge $344/credit hour and require 31 credits to be completed, so it would be $10,644. Ohio allows you to pause classes if life gets too overwhelming and pick up again when things calm down. Classes are 5 weeks long, which can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your learning style. I was leaning towards Ohio but was told that in order to be admitted, I would first have to pass the fundamentals class at EVC. I was hoping to start BSN classes in the Summer when things are quieter but this would not be possible. ASU has a partnership with California Community colleges and offers a $135 discount per credit hour, so you'd only have to pay $450/credit hour. This only applies to you if you meet several criteria, two of which being you do not already have a BA degree and you MUST take classes continuously – no breaks between semesters. If you do have a BA, you'd have to pay the full cost of $585/credit hour (not entirely sure about this number; the enrollment coach I spoke to couldn't give me an accurate number). ASU requires 36 credit hours for their BSN and their semesters range from 7.5 – 15 weeks long. If you qualify for the credit, you are looking at $16,200. If not, $21,060. This would be the most expensive option. I emailed the EVC nursing dept about schedules in the fall because I noticed NURS 010 had several sections with different time slots for lab. I was hoping to figure out my class schedule so that I can give my work availability, but unfortunately, the department will assign us to specific slots and we may not know until right before the semester starts. I'm hoping I can work as much as I can in the Summer and start saving. I'll figure out the rest later. Sorry for the long post. I hope this helps with your decision making. If you're comfortable sharing, I'd love to hear what you decide to do.

Yes! Please do keep me updated. I've tried to look for former students' experiences and there isn't a lot of information out there. The rejection letter listed two alternate options to pursue a BSN while at EVC: Arizona State University and Ohio University. The prices I listed above were found on their tuition pages, but I'm not sure if I'm looking at the correct amounts. https://www.evc.edu/ohio-university-early-start-RN-bsn https://www.evc.edu/arizona-state-university-dual-enrollment-program

According to some online sources, it appears that Ohio may be cheaper, even though ASU doesn't charge out of state fees. The main draw for me is that Ohio's classes are 5 weeks long (vs ASU 7.5 weeks), and I would have the option to pause classes if EVC coursework gets too demanding, and pick up again when things calm down. I'm feeling better about being rejected to the SJSU CEP, because like many others here, I was also unsure if I would be able handle the amount of work.
