Evergreen Valley College Nursing Program - 2026/2027
I did talk to people at Ohio about this actually! You are right, the non-degree status does make it so the we can't use FAFSA money, but I think if you still fill out your FAFSA, the school might have little grants that discount some of the tuition and/or books. That is was EVC has and what I did/plan to also do for Ohio. The last three classes in that final Summer or fall semester (whenever you choose to take them) can have FAFSA money applied towards it bc at that point it's directly towards a BSN! Ohio just seems like the most manageable financially and with the workload/timing to me personally.

Evergreen Valley College Nursing Program - 2026/2027
Hey! I have finally gotten in contact with several people from Ohio and can share if it helps. I asked about preceptorship and they did confirm we have to find our own placements, but they provide a list of all previous preceptorship locations that accept their students, which hopefully will help a lot! Also, I was told we can stack classes and take multiple per subterm, as well as Summer time. No Winter session as they don't do any Winter classes. So yes, you will have the 3 more classes to wrap up, but if you do one during Summer, and last two in fall, you'll be done the next semester, which is pretty normal/typical for ADN RN --> BSN's 😁 Side note, I also clarified for anyone wondering about pricing, the total amount you'd end up paying is going to be closer to $9,976 for Ohio because of the 1/2 off price for the first class. And if you file for FAFSA, the last 3 classes can also be discounted! I am actually leaning towards Ohio rather than SJSU because of the price and flexibility with class schedules. Ideally, the BSN portion is not meant to be difficult or extra crazy expensive! We will all be so stressed out for the bulk of the ADN, we don't need to make it any harder haha.

Oh wait that sucks that Ohio maybe isn't going to offer the course we would need for it! Maybe if enough of us want to do it, we could petition for it esp since it would be all online. How are you getting in touch with people from there? I emailed a counselor and signed up for the live webinar thing, but have not heard back. Someone from SJSU called me today and kinda was pushing me to decide asap. Sounds like it's just easiest for them if I make up my mind. But I told them I will need to figure out more about Ohio first. They did answer a few of my questions though! This was the response: "Our SJSU courses are online each semester and the last semester 5 (post EVC graduation) will have 1 in-person community health clinical practicum that meets 1 day a week to be eligible for your public health nurse certificate. The final semester will also have a project course N177 and not a traditional hospital preceptorship."

I was so scared to start the page tbh haha. I was worried nobody would talk or help each other, so I am glad we have built a good space here! But yeah Ohio is for sure a good choice. Ya never know what is going to come up in life so the flexibility is very cool. The only other thing about SJSU that is pulling me towards that is when you graduate, students are eligible for a Public Health Nursing certification in CA upon licensure as a RN. Sooo if you're interested in public health nursing (which I might be), this could be the easiest way to get all three at once. The ADN + BSN + PH nursing certificate. Yeah I agree, definitely lots to think about. If SJSU CEP does not end up working out for me, I will do Ohio! And yes, anyone else who has more info, feel free to join in the convo and share if you're willing!

OMG you are literally so sweet for sharing all this info! I just signed up to meet with someone with Ohio so hopefully that will also help answer my nitty gritty type questions. I think Ohio sounds like such a good option though based on what you've said! My friend who just finished at Sac City last yr, and has been working now said that all her nurse managers/charge nurses have said they got their BSN's on random online schools like ASU or Grand Canyon. I think as long as you have a BSN, or are in progress towards completing the BSN while you're applying for jobs, employers stop caring about WHERE you actually went. They just need/want to see you have it or almost done with the program. I feel like that is part of SJSU's selling point. Bc they say it's well known and reputable, which it is... but is that worth the extra thousands of dollars/debt? Maybe not. Also if the CEP is fully in person, I feel like that could be tougher. Even though ASU/Ohio are online, ofc that will come with challenges, but from generally online is easier bc you do it at your own time and speed. Versus my experience at SJSU, they tend to have the mindset where they need to make it harder than it actually does need to be/should be because the name SJSU is known in the bay area. Plus if we all mostly end up doing Ohio or ASU, we can help each other bc we'd be in it together! I do appreciate your thoughtful answer! Please don't apologize!! I love this page and support we all have here ☺️❤️ Ty

Yes I think you are right about this! Because they told me in my initial email placing me as "backup" that they have 25 seats available for the CEP. Whether or not those all stay filled is a question. I could see them offering to 25 people but maybe less than that accept it, and just opt to do the generic RN and get a BSN elsewhere.

Hi guys! I just got an email offering to be taken off the backup list for EVC-SJSU CEP! I am excited but also would really appreciate some advice because I'm not sure if I should accept it or not. I am a fully independent student not from the area, so I pay for a lot on my own. I was wondering if anyone has gotten updates on ASU or Ohio BSN programs, if the cost seems doable for someone fully financially on their own, and if anyone is also willing to share what your plans are to pay for cost of living while we are in the program. I am thinking I will need to find a new job once we know our schedules better. Literally ANY advice would be appreciated. Thank you all!!
