  1. I took a position on an ortho floor right after graduation and I've been there almost 2 years now. I was hesistant to take it at first only because it wasn't my favorite roundings during nursing school but I'm glad I did!! I've gained an abundance of knowledge while working there. I made sure that whenever something new for me was on the floor, I wanted to be there to learn it. I'm currently orienting for charge nurse which I never thought I would do 2 years after school. I don't think this is my long term career choice but it has been an excellent starting point for me.
  2. I would break that first diagnoses down to make two. Sounds to me as the patient has had a joint surgery or something?? I would use the first one as Impaired mobility r/t pain from surgery AEB: difficulty moving and unstable gait. A second diagnoses could be Acute pain R/T surgical incision AEB patient stating "I'm really sore" and stated pain as a 7/10 on the pain scale. A few goals: Patient will state pain is a 3/10 within 45 minutes of pain medication administration. Patient will demonstrate appropriate, independent use of a walker by discharge. (just changed a bit from your one). And your other goals were good too. I would also go with Patient will... And maybe a third one too that was always my favorite was Knowledge deficit. There is always something you can teach your patient!!
  3. Me and a few other students are having the same problem with maryland BON. We have sent several emails and phone messages with no response back!! I think we are going to drive personally to the BON on Monday of next week if we haven't heard anything. I have a job that is pending my passing the NCLEX.
  4. This one really helped me in the cardiac system when you need to know when you hear a murmur like on Mitral regurgitation you hear it on systole. (H)ARD ASS MRS. MSD ARD = Atrial regurgitation diastole ASS = Atrial stenosis systole MRS = Mitral regurgitation systole MSD = Mitral stenosis diastole
  5. Hello. I will be graduating in May (yeah!) and there has been discussion about previous grads that have received sign-on bonuses. Can anyone tell me if that has happened to them? I don't know if I should hold out for a bonus because I have racked up some bills being in college and that would help out greatly.
  6. We use the carpenito book for approved NANDA and in the back of the book you can look up the medical diagnoses and it gives you some suggestions for nursing diagnosis. For the interventions/rationales....I LOVE the mosby's care plan book. Rationales are right next to the interventions and lists them by category such as teaching, assessing.
  7. Thanks so much for the websites....they will come in handy!
