  2. No, don't know what area. Many have told me to get grounded in med-surg, but some people have told me that that is old school. "Nowadays, you just go to the area you want to try and they will train you, right out of school." I can see the value of med-surg for its broad exposure. But i don't think i could do it day after day. I'm already disgusted with the patients who won't take care of their own health and then expect us to do it for them. I mean, if ever were there a built-in feed back loop, it is what you do to your own body. And these people ignore all the warnings/warning signs until it hits crisis stage--then present themselves to be fixed, like it is a car or something. So, i'm now thinking "surgery" so i don't have to listen to them. But i don't know. Any advice? Sounds like you have been around the block. Where have you worked. How is it taking care of someone at home?! Boy, talk about taking your work home with you.
  3. Thanks, all. I think we have a thread going.
  4. Thanks so much. What is "agency"? And which city are you familiar with?
  5. I'm a new grad RN and want to find out what people are getting paid and the perks. I know i can ask each hospital, agency, etc. I can also ask you; you have the inside view of what it is really like. So please post. I am interested in per diem (or part time or casual or whatever they call it--is there a difference?) What is the pay? What are the perks? Thanks!:biggringi
  6. I'm a member of http://groups.yahoo.com/group/allexcelsiornurses , but i don't remember it being a problem to get in. But i have posted there to find out and will let you know. It has a been a good site, and if it is shut, we need to start a fresh one for all the new people. (I read that it was started by a private company to help sell their study services--don't know, but there seems to be no moderator and it may be locked because it is no longer owned.) ---Bud
