  1. I am a retired Medical Assistant with an Associates degree in medical assisting and at one of the jobs I worked at I started IV's all day long (this is Colorado). I have also worked at 2 different allergy offices and did injections, vaccinations (pediatrics), administered epinephrine to someone currently in anaphylaxis, and have done many different things at different offices. I have never had the desire to call myself a nurse because I was a PROUD Medical Assistant. I worked hard for my degree and graduated with a 4.0. and did an excellent job at every place I worked at. The title of Medical Assistant is something to be proud of, period. We work hard, have hard core responsibilities and there is really no reason to downplay the hard work and education of Medical Assistants. I have no idea why a M.A. would want to call themselves a nurse.
