  1. Working as a nurse is a highly stressful career. The amount of decisions one can make in a given shift is astronomical. But there are also many professionals who go through the motions in different careers and seem un-phased. I would suggest that your concern for doing a great job and overcoming the challenges of a work shift is anxiety filled. If you didn't care then you would be more focused on the end of your shift and less about the pre-shift thoughts that may affect you. I have been a nurse for 15 years and often still experience substantial anxiety when attending work. I would suggest deep breathing, relaxing music or prayer prior to your shift. Working as a nurse is a lot and remember you choose to continue this career. If you feel overwhelmed, consider applying for an outpatient position or even a case manager position with more controlled stressors. Any nursing job is stressful, but the unexpectedness of a work shift in the hospital is daunting. Thank YOU for being a nurse and keep your chin up and chest out!
  2. Good day to you! Thank you for taking the time to look at my posting. I am an RN with 15 years of experience in adult inpatient and outpatient. I most recently have been working as an adult APN in primary care for the past 2 years. I am very interested in focusing my time on obesity and mental health amongst school aged and adolescents. I am trying to obtain information from nurses who work/have worked in pediatrics regarding current treatments and strategies for the overwhelming amount of obesity we are facing. I am trying to formulate a strategy to put my time towards community nursing of this population and their parents but other than published information and being a parent myself, I have not encountered any pediatricians or family providers who are aggressively addressing this issue. Therefore, I want to become a leader and try to tackle this issue, but do not work in pediatrics and would appreciate your time or advice on the needs you are seeing and any published information or programs in the United States that are being offered to this. Lastly, if you have done on any research on this topic for school, that also would be helpful if you have identified any studies that might also be used as a reference. Thanks and most importantly, thank YOU for choosing to be a professional nurse and caring for others in our communities!!
