  1. I have been doing substitute nurse work for 2-1/2 years in our school district. We can only call in nurses who have been Civil Service and board of education approved for our school distrct. So there is only one other nurse and myself as substitutes for our three schools. And now I am working daily as a nurse on a few bus runs, so that really limits what time I can give to the school buildings themselves (and there is no one to cover me if I can't make the bus runs!) I do have to say that I absolutely love working with the schools as apposed to working in the hospital. I am getting paid pretty good to be a sub because they know we are few and far between.
  2. I have been an RN for 14 years, 11 of which were on a surgical/pediatric floor (both adults and kids). In those 13 years I sustained 3 back injuries. Eachof which the docs told me were only strains and sprains. Well, now that I finally got them to do an MRI-which lead to a discogram w/CT- I am facing a lumbar fusion this summer. Yikes!:uhoh21: I left floor nursing after my last injury, and have stayed home with my kids for the past three years, while picking up some hours as a school nurse in my children's school district. So now I would like to see what my employment options are outside of floor/staff nursing(which require so much lifting that I can no longer do). ANy suggestions anyone? Thanks in advance.
