Hey, For pharm, make charts. For each group of meds, include a quick patho, clinical indications, contraindications/cautions, adverse effects, and nursing considerations. Make sure you include things that stand out (ex: aspirin has a risk of Reye's syndrome/exam 2). Definite know your MOA for the meds for exam 1! For medsurg, watching YouTube videos on conditions helped me a lot. Simplenursing, level up RN were the ones I relied on. I don't remember much for aging and psych but if you have the books' test bank questions, utilize them. We absolutely hated the questions on these exams.. My study group would do zoom review sessions with active recalls a day or two before every exam. We'd come to campus early that morning and write out on the board as well. Don't procrastinate, it's a lot of info. Hope these tips help. Good luck!

Good luck! Second semester just started this week after repeating the one class (mentioned above) so I don't have much to share. Only one lab this semester so on campus less. 2 clinicals instead of 1. I don't really use external sources to study for the exams, maybe I will later to prep for the NCLEX but for now, the books are enough but to each their own. Put in the work, don't cram, ask for help if you're falling behind asap, form a strong study group with your classmates and don't be afraid to befriend the classmates who will do better than you. You got this.

Hey Brad, First semester was manageable for me with 4 classes (1 class ended earlier than the rest), 2 days on campus for 2 labs, and one clinical during the last 5 weeks of the semester. It wasn't easy for sure, many of my classmates, especially those who had no background in medicine struggled a lot and a few didn't make it and they really tried their best. I did quite well in all classes (with the help of being in a really good study group as well as having 5 years of experience working in hospitals). I unfortunately have to repeat one course and cannot progress with the rest of my cohort due to missing one clinical day. The school denied my 3 appeals and despite me informing multiple related staffs (including directors) months prior to my absent, not a single one of them warned me. So to me, the program did not show any support or empathy and forced me to repeat the whole course despite my cohort signed a petition for me. Just think of the program as a hungry money business with some professors who really do care while the others not so much. The program is rigorous but if you're mature and not here to play, you can succeed putting in your hours. Be prepared to read and study for 6-8 hours daily including weekends. This is only based on my first semester and from Latham so best of luck to you!

Hi Maraj, I started this fall of '24. The negative reviews were my biggest concerns too so I brought them up to my registration counselor. She said those are mainly from other locations. So far I think the program is quite well planned. It is a lot of work (more efforts than a 9-5 job) and the first 2 weeks were the biggest challenge to most of us but once you get the hang of the schedule, your studying style and how the exams work, it gets easier, at least that's how it is for me..

Ahsan, Yes! My studio at 1395 at the Hudson is about $1.4K. I was debating between this and Astro (down the street) because they were about the same price, both furnished. One is a newer building versus the other and has an actual gym versus a room with treadmills and yoga mats at Astro... the only downfall for the Hudson is they only sign yearly leases but the program is 16months long, so you'll either sign 1 year and figure out the rest later or you sign an extra year but find a someone to sublease (you'll have to pay a $500 fee to sublease to someone else). Versus Astro, you can sign a 16 months lease with them.

Nicole, I'll come to the hangout room on site on Tuesday a little early for the 12:30 lab so we can exchange contact info! Our schedules are a bit different but we'll prob meet up before exams on off days to study on site together. Ahsan, spot on with the pricing! There are a few furnished apts across from UAlbany that are about ~$1100 - $1400/mo after everything. Safe area but you'll need a car staying here (about 15 mins drive to Utica site). Depending if you have a roommate or not (2-3 beds versus studio). There are a few other classmates who rent on the same block as me so we probably will carpool later/bad weather days.

It's only our first week of classes but so far I feel like we have a great cohort, super friendly and motivated for this program. I haven't met one classmate who isn't determined to finish the program strong. We already formed study groups and helped each other succeed since it's a lot of information and materials to digest on the first week. You'll need to be on site 2-3 days a week for in person labs/exams. Clinical/rotation starts in Oct and that'll be at nearby hospitals. Your 3.7 science GPA seems promising but that also depends on what science classes you have taken, basic bio/chem versus organic chems/molecular chem, you know what I mean? Imo some students will have a harder time than the others since they have other priorities like children/job or been out of school for a long time but I believe with the right group/mindset, you'll succeed just fine (with a lot of efforts still, of course).

Utica University - ABSN Programs
Somewhere in the threads about this program on this site. They might be about main campus ones. You gotta see all of the comments since most of them are negative... they've mentioned how most students aren't used to the large load of school works and fast paced environment, just need to put in your best studying techniques, a lot of studying hours, and don't slack off. I believe I have until May 19th or 20th

I am waitlisted for a Physician Assistant Program but it's likely a no go. So this is my back up plan to do nursing and eventually NP or CRNA later. I'm a radiology technologist (CNMT) with a Bachelor in Biology. What about you? My concerns for this program are based off of the negative reviews I have found online but the few non-negative ones have helped me made a decision. They mentioned how most students aren't putting in enough hours for this program, it's a bachelor degree squeezed in 16months, view it as a full time job. If you have other priorities like a job to up hold, children, etc, you might find it very difficult to go through. I do worry about the lack of school support, but I'm committed to change my career so I will go to all ends to find support from the school if needed cause 60k is not little as well as relocating and quitting my current well paying job.

Looking to connect with the Fall 2024 cohort for this program. The negative reviews on this program is endless but I am committed. Let's form study groups, we can finish this strong cause I'm not about wasting money and efforts. Open to connect with the other Utica ABSN programs as well since the materials would be similar and we could study together.

Hi Nicole, did you end up accepting the program? I am part of the cohort for this fall despite all of the negative reviews. Looking for fellow future classmates to possibly share housing and form study groups. I know the program is tough and might lack support but I'm hopeful we can get through it together.
