What to use on the nares to prevent breakdown of skin
Hi I was just wondering what other units use to put on the infants nose region to prevent pressure areas occurring (even actual septum damage) from lon term use of prongs/ mask while on CPAP. Is there a product out there to use (eg like duoderm to cover the area)??? Thanks:banghead:

Visitation and family centered care
Hi our visiting policy got a hugh overhaul in 2006 Dec. when we had out breaks of ESBL in the unit. The visiting policy before was anyone can coming in to visit (mum or dad had to be present- can have 4 people at a time - the only restriction was children under 13 yrs (unless ther are siblings) were not allowed. Warde rounds were 9-10ish visiting was not encouraged unless mother were breastfeeding then. Due to the rise of the evil bug ESBL (and further mutation )- our visiting policy is mum, dad, grandparents and siblings only - two visitors at a time. Every entrance to ward/ and bay has hand pump microbal solutions. Each baby has hand solutions. We found the ESBL in the sinks, but not in the water supply. Thus no sinks -only have two areas to srub for procedures/ changing Longline solutions etc.

Visitation during RSV season
Hi from Down Under- we are now into the end of spring here. This year we have many cases of RSV. Or visiting policy is strict parents/ grandparents and siblings. Only 2 visitors at a time ( we had a huge problem with ESBL in the unit so the visiting policy became very very strict - been free for 4 months but the policy hasn't been reveiwed). Most of the RSV was tracted back to a grandparent or siblings, we found that the parents were great ( they would were masks or not visit until they were much better):welcome: If people realised how siick these kiddies get I think they might think twice before bring a snotty nose child into the unit.
