Hello! I just got word today that I was selected for the Navy nurse corps. I have 7 years of experience as a nurse ( ED and Cath lab). I was told I'd go in as an 02, then promote to 03 after a year. I was credentialed as a 1910 Med surg speciality. They wouldn't count my ED experience since I left the department in 2021 and transferred to cath lab. my question is: how long will it take if I request transfer to ED? What is the process of doing that?

I'm an RN with 7 years of experience (ED, Cath lab) , currently waiting for board results, I am expecting to get results back mid August. I started this process March 2024- Completed the application, MEPS, credentialing in 4 months. My recruiter has been amazing to work with during this process.

No problem! I live in NC, I told my recruiter where I'm located and he said shouldn't be an issue. I personally only applied to the Navy. My husband is a Marine officer and we're currently stationed out in Lejeune until 2027. so it only sense for me to go navy route . If you don't have a preference, then I'd think it should be okay in this initial process . IDK the rules around that particular situation, But once you submit an application with navy , I would personally stop pursuing Air Force.

I was in a similar situation as you. I was in contact with a recruiter that was not responsive. I sent over my resume/license/transcript to her email and she never got back to me. So, I reached out to a navy nurse in Okinawa and he got me connected to a recruiter from Portsmouth VA. Spoke to a male recruiter last Friday, submitted documents and he gave me confirmation that papers were sent over to program manager the same night. This recruiter told me the next step would be filling out the application then going through security clearance process . Once you're done with that part you submit medical paperwork and wait to get schedule to go to MEPS . If you're cleared through MEPS. You move on to credentialing, which I'm told can take long to process.

Agree! I'll take all the feedback I can get. That's exciting! Once you get approval —do you sign service agreement , commission then get a ship date to ODS? what was timeline like for you (application/MEPS/ going on a board)?

Thanks, I'll definitely bring it up to my recruiter. I have a feeling I'd have to submit a note from my physician as well. I know this is not an application related question , I hope you don't mind me asking — how do you like being a Navy nurse? What is the day to day like? I've reached out to navy nurses on instagram to hear about their experience, but I haven't had any luck getting feedback .

I got in touch with an HMC recruiter . I have 6 years of experience in ER, cath lab and my current job as a quality nurse. I submitted my resume/license/credentials to recruiter. This resume will be submitted to program manager for review to determine if there are slots for ER speciality . The issue I'm having is that my ER experience dates back to sept 2021 , I moved on to another speciality after that. They prefer current ER experience, but as per recruiter they can consider my experience if it is within last 3 years. I am hoping to hear back this upcoming week.
