  1. This is a teachable moment. Niursing presents them all the time. 1. Apologize to the patent. Lierally, tell him "I would like to apologize. You are right being upset with me for missing the active order for Norco. This is will never hpen again. I would like to continue being your nurse and work with you." The patient will probably respond angrily but you are their to support him anyway. It is my sense that eventually he will respond positively to your mature behavior. 2. Expressing strong emotions such as anger or crying in front of the patient is wrong. Compassion is what people want to feel from their nurse. 3. Work on building relationships with your patients long or short-term stay, it is equally important. 4. Seek for counseling if needed. Learn, grow, move on. 5. Love your patients. Yes, love. There is no other feeling in the world that has more healing powers than love. If you feel that love inside, people will respond with warmth and kindness. I am wishing you the best. The fact that your are writing here means that you care. This is the first big step.
  2. I would tke a deep breath, praise yourself for all the studying that you have already done, take the experience as a learning opportunity for improvement. It also may help to start visualizeing yourself as if you have already passed the test! It is a brain trick that helped me to calm my nerves. I used a total of 1 month to prepare for the NCLEX. First 2-3 days were devoted to learning EVERYTHING about the NCLEX: it's logarithm, how to read the questions - read every question twice, even if you think that you understood it from the first time. I focused on my breathing too. Box breathig technique really worked. I used the last 2 days before the test to rest my brain. Had a brief overview of the labs and meds, that was all. I intentioally refused to know about my cohort friends' NCLEX experiences to avoid getting distracted or comparing myself to their test results. I am not the best test taker. Shockingly, NCLEX did not seem too hard. Best of luck on keeping positive attitude, remaning calm, and focused!
  3. "Prevalence of obesity (BMI > or = 30) in Japanese adults (aged 20 years and over) was 3.8% in males and 3.2% in females (National Health and Nutrition Survey, 2010), being quite low compared with other countries listed in the Global Database on Body Mass Index (WHO)." This is a quote from a PubMed study. Why? Diet and daily habits come first. Look at the pictures from 1970s. How many overweight people will you find there? Health system in the US is relyig n a steady manufacturing of heavy, depressed, unhealthy people. It is a very sad reality. Our role is to educate patients. One person at a time. Any other suggestions? In my opinion, food industry does not want to hear about the damage they cause to our health, government remains indifferent. ... "appropriate body weight management has been prioritized in the national health programs". (oce again, this is in Japan)
  4. Nursing is not for everyone, one has to have an uptitude for it. Higher pay should not be the main motivator. While giving love and care to your patients, you will receive back the responce that will replanishe your energy and zest for providing the care your patients deserve. There will be ups and downs, no doubt. There will be days when rest after a challenging shift is a blessing. But there will be days when you will be overwhelmed with joy for making a positive impact in someone's life. Life is about finding a sweet balance. I would use the remaining 6 months to work as an LPN to see if nursing is for you and whether you can come close to finding that balance that will be equally rewarding.
