It is quite congested anywhere in Pinellas County. Move a little up north to Pasco County where housing is a little bit less expensive than Pinellas. If you really want to work in Pinellas (they have better hospitals than Pasco), the drive isn't too bad if you live in South Pasco. They have Magnet Hospitals in Pinellas. Excellent ones. Try the Morton Plant Mease hospitals... Morton Plant in Clearwater, Mease Countryside in Safety Harbor, Mease Dunedin in Dunedin, Morton Plant North Bay in New Port Richey (which is actually in Pasco County). They have very good benefits. Used to work at one of their hospitals but LPN pay was not very attractive but very good learning experience. I switched to LTC for better pay. RN's fresh out of school start at $19/hr. Can't remember how much shift diff was but it was $1.15/hr for LPN for 3-11. Shift diff is higher for RN's. If I'm not mistaken, it's arond $5/hr for 11-7. Mease Countryside has been expanding with a new maternity unit but you may also want to try Morton Plant in Clearwater, it's the largest of the four hospitals. Be careful during the summer though when census gets low... they tend to cancel a lot and unless you have enough PTO to cover for it, you won't get a full two weeks' worth of pay Hope this little bit of info helps! :)

Thanks Fiona59! :) Weekends are not really a big deal for me. I guess I'm just tired of working on the floor and wanted something "less frantic". I've been kinda looking for job openings online and there's not too much job openings for LPN's in MD's offices. I checked the Calgary Health Region website and they seem to offer only regular part time, temporary part time, or temporary full time openings for LPN's. Are the job prospects for LPN's in Calgary have always been like this?

I AGREE!!!! I hate it when they do that and I absolutely hate it when they try to "over-imitate" the accent. A lot of Filipinos have very good American accents but some over emphasize it that it actually becomes a little too annoying. But lemme tell you what, if there are Americans around and another Filipino talks to me in Tagalog, I respond in English just because I think it's rude to speak in Tagalog if you're in the company of non-Tagalog speaking people. A good American friend actually told me this because another Pinoy co-worker keeps speaking in Tagalog despite subtle hints from American co-workers that it's somewhat impolite. And frankly, when two Hispanic co-workers start talking in Spanish when I'm in their company, I feel a little uncomfortable. I know their not talking about me but it simply makes me feel uneasy. I guess it would always be helpful to remember the Golden Rule: "Do not do unto others what you don't want others to do unto you" But if you're in the company of fellow Filipnos, by all means speak Tagalog and don't pretend you no longer know how to! :wink2:

Hi! I'm new here and this is actually my first post. Anyway, I'm an LPN here in the US and will be relocating to Calgary with my Canadian husband in a few months. I've been working in a med-surg floor for a while and would like to try something "less stressful". I've been thinking of working in a doctor's office when I relocate to Calgary. It'll be good to have every weekend off for a change. Anyway, can anyone give me an idea how much LPN's get paid in doctor's offices? Here in the US they don't get paid as much as nurses who work on the floor. I just wanna have a rough estimate on how much they get in Canada. Also, does anyone work or has worked or knows anyone that works in the Dr. Bernstein Health and Diet Clinics? If so, how is it like working there? And how much do they get paid? Any information will be much appreciated! Thanks!
