I love this! I will be 54 when I finish too and definitely plan on working full time until 67-69 then part time until who knows how long? As long as I am still competent and a skilled provider I can see me still working in my 70's for sure. The surgeon who took my tonsils out when I was 45 was 75 at the time and he was amazing ?

Totally worth it if it's what you want? I was a dental hygienist and always was interested in medicine so at 53 I'm in direct entry NP Program now. You're never too old??

Hi David, I know Vanderbilt has a direct entry option. I am starting there in August but I'm in Prespecialty MSN/AGPCNP I actually have zero nursing experience and my degree is dental hygiene. I've been in dentistry 25 years but have wanted to transition to medicine for some time. The points made in this thread are excellent. I definitely have some trepidation about becoming a NP without ever having been a practicing nurse but I really didn't have a desire to work bedside at this stage of my life. I love treatment planning and diagnosis, although my experience thus far has been limited to oral health I am up for the challenge ? Best of luck to you and definitely check out Vanderbilt.

I know this is an old thread but I'm glad I found it. I am a dental hygienist and have been in dentistry 25 years. I'm totally burned out in my field and truly no longer like hygiene at all. I've wanted to transition to medical for a long time so I applied to a NP Program at Vanderbilt and was accepted. I'm super excited but definitely have some concerns that resonate with those outlined above. I do love dx and tx planning but my experience in that is limited to oral health. While I'm really excited about the change I do have some reservations.

It does scare me a little but I accepted anyway LOL ? I’m hoping to maybe get a Nurse Corp scholarship next year and that would help a lot. Since you are in Mental Health maybe check the VA, I know they are offering a generous scholarship for that specialty ?

OMG y’all I came out of work and saw all the emails from this thread and though decisions were in ?? I’m not even going to take my phone into work tomorrow in case I didn’t get in I don’t want to find out there LOL ? Tomorrow is our short day where we work straight through until 2pm with back to back patients so hopefully that will keep me from spinning too much! Good luck to everyone, I hope we all get in??????

I think a 3.8 is super competitive!! I’m a little concerned I won’t get in because I have to take Microbiology and Lifespan Psychology. When I talked to my admissions counselor I expressed my concern about not having those and maybe I should wait until I’m done with them but she said not to wait , to apply now so I did ??‍♀️? I’m currently a dental hygienist so I had all the other ones but they will expire after this year so I really hope I get in this time???

Hi Robert that’s awesome! I really want to work in a rural underserved area. I live in NV very close to Lake Tahoe but many underserved rural communities surrounding. Many employers are offering large tuition reimbursement with very good salaries here as the need is so great which will help considering the tuition at Vandy. I hope we both get in ???

Same! I just want to know??‍♀️? Has anyone else applied for AGPCNP? I’m wishing now I would have applied for the dual cert that included WHNP as well, both are super high in demand where I live.

Oh good $500 is reasonable, if I’m lucky enough to get in I’ll accept right away. That’s interesting about the DNP I’ve heard the trend is moving toward that. I ultimately want to get that but I hope I get in before they change?

OMG me too!! ? I have no idea though. I look everyday several times LOL ? I’m off work this week too which kind of makes it worse since I’m not distracted with work. I really hope we find out this week. I know Friday starts Winter break for the school but I wonder if that includes the staff too? If so I would think we would hear before then but if not it could be after.

So I’m wondering since the school said they wanted to get decisions out before the holidays if that means we could possibly know by December 9th since that’s the last day of Fall semester and beginning of Winter break? I’m so excited and so nervous ? ? Best of luck to everyone, an acceptance sure would be a great start to the holidays ?????

@jentl2002 did you happen to ask them and they emailed you or did they just email you directly? I haven’t heard anything from them since I submitted my application in October. When I log in it show’s received by all of my transcripts and recommendations but that’s all. I’m just nervous I think because this is the only school I applied to.

I believe they said February for direct entry in the orientation. I was confused by that because I would have thought that if you are already a BSN you would be considered first?

Oh yes that would be so hard! Do you happen to know how much deposit Vandy requires to accept a spot? I am not sure how much time they give you either. I only applied to Vandy this time but I’m sure most have applied to other schools too. Are there other programs similar to this one that allow non nursing degrees and are the same length? I have family in Nashville which makes it super appealing for me since the tuition is so expensive on its own.

I’m thinking that since it is rolling admissions the pre specialty applicants that they definitely want to offer admission to and any waitlisted are notified in December then they review all the applicants that applied after priority. Maybe?? I’m not sure how they do it so fast either except that each specialty takes different numbers of applicants and has their own admission team so it’s probably much more manageable than it seems. Then again I guess it also depends on how many applications are received I heard they get a lot. Either way I really hope we hear in December as it allows more time for planning a move.

I was in the Zoom info session and we were told that we would be notified in December if we were pre specialty and in by priority deadline. The question about being notified in February came up and the counselor said definitely December for priority pre specialty. Hopefully this will be the case. I haven’t received anything saying my application is in review though.
