  1. Has anybody else who 2nd interviewed with PICU not heard a thing?
  2. Congrats, futurenurse312! Has anyone else heard from PICU?
  3. Would love to hear from anyone else who had/has an interview. I had mine today (for PICU) and would love to debrief with anyone once they have theirs!

  5. Anyone out there both a lawyer and an RN or NP? I am a nursing student and am licensed as an attorney in NY and CA. I'm curious to hear from anyone who has a law license about how you navigated your clinical placements and/or nursing jobs wrt disclosing to HR and making sure you are complying with your ethical and legal responsibilities as both a lawyer and nurse. My nursing school is offering zero advice/support (and even had their legal counsel convey a statement that they are not providing any advice or counsel on this matter). I start my first clinical rotation in January and am going to disclose my law licenses to the hospital's HR dept, so would just love to hear from anyone who has dealt with the dual lawyer/RN roles. Happy to discuss offline if that's more comfortable for anyone! Thanks in advance! Oh, I'm in CA, so any insights from CA nurses/NPs would be especially helpful. Thanks!
  6. Hi all! Do you guys have a sense of (1) how long it takes to have your degree conferred when you complete the program, (2) how long you need between finishing classes and taking the NCLEX and (3) how long most people are waiting between passing the NCLEX and receiving the RN license (recognizing that CA BRN says 10-12 weeks, but not sure whether that's the reality or just the maximum it can take)? Thanks!

  8. I am in for November start at the San Mateo campus! Anyone else? It would be great to connect with others who are planning to attend!
  9. Thanks so much for that insight, Elaine!
  10. Hi folks, I wonder if any of you (ideally those at the San Mateo campus, but would love to hear about Oakland as well) can provide some insight about schedules and hybrid/virtual vs. in-person classes/labs/sims/etc. 1. I am curious to know how many days/week you need to be on site in San Mateo vs. attending classes/labs remotely. Are didactic class hours/clinicals/labs typically between 9 am-5 pm? Or are some scheduled during early morning/evening hours? 2. Also, can you provide a sense of how many days/week clinicals are? 3. Is there a list of potential clinical sites? Trying to get a sense of how far they are from the SM campus. 4. Are there any required weekend clinicals/labs/sims/classes? Thanks in advance for any answers/guidance you can provide!
  11. Hi folks, I realize many of you may not have started the SMU ABSN program yet, but in case you happen to know... 15. Hi @Jamie Johnson, thank you for providing that feedback. Is your sense that organizations like UCSF and Stanford have a negative view/won't take applicants from ABSN and direct-entry MSN programs leading to an RN? Is it that they really want RNs with the traditional 3-4 year BSN? Also, do you happen to know Sutter's position on this? And SFGH? (Fully realize you may not have answers to all these minute questions, but thought I'd ask just in case.) And thanks for noting the discontinuation of MEPN. I was all set to complete my MEPN application (prereqs done, letters of rec lined up, essays in great shape after writing a dozen drafts!) last Summer and was devastated when they cancelled the application cycle in August (after postponing it twice) and then made the December announcement about discontinuing the program until after 2025. Uff. Such a tough blow. Do you have any idea what the "new" DNP program will look like? Is it essentially going to be the current DNP program, just with additional spots available? Or are they changing admission requirements? Columbia has a masters direct entry (RN after the first 15 months) that flows into a DNP (3ish years depending on specialty). I wonder if UCSF is going that route. Also, do you know whether they're phasing out the MSN entirely, or will that program continue going forward, perhaps with a requirement that future classes also complete the DNP portion? UCSF remains my top choice school, but with no pre-licensure program until (probably? possibly?) 2026 at the earliest, it feels so far out of reach. In the past few weeks I have received offers from Yale, Columbia and Penn, but I have three young kids and attending one of those schools would mean spending an enormous amount of time away from my husband and kiddos. I'm exploring possibilities for other ABSN/direct-entry MSN programs in the Bay Area, but many of them require additional prerequisites and/or are longer than 15 months, and none of them are equal to UCSF's caliber. What a mess! Would greatly appreciate any additional information or advice you may want to share! Feel free to DM me if you prefer a more private forum. And THANK YOU for your thoughtful reply!
  16. Yep, of course! I suppose I should have asked whether anyone has already heard about *other* scholarships, or whether we can hope there may be additional merit aid in our financial aid notifications. I'm planning to attend the finaid session next week, but thought I'd see what others know/have heard so far.
  17. Has anyone received their financial aid offer yet? I appreciate this is sensitive and folks might not want to respond, but if you are comfortable sharing whether/how much merit scholarship you have been offered, that would be helpful information in weighing various offers and whether I could possibly make Columbia work for my family. I received the Seamless Scholarship only--$40K split between the first two doctoral years. The first year is so overwhelmingly expensive, though, and many other programs offer a lot more help with that hefty first year. Also, I would welcome any tidbits you may have picked up in the first admitted students zoom session! Anything surprising, encouraging, different than what you knew about the program previously? Thanks!
  18. Hi former MEPNs/now MSNs! Do you have a sense of how many of your classmates work part-time as RNs during the MSN program? Is it pretty easy to get a per diem/PT job in the Bay Area as an RN who does not have a BSN/ABSN/degree related to nursing? Do you know what the pay looks like for those jobs?

  20. Hi current MEPNs! Do you have a sense from MSN/speciality students how many of them work part-time as RNs during the MSN program? Is it pretty easy to get a per diem/PT job in the Bay Area as an RN who does not have a BSN/ABSN/degree related to nursing? Do you know what the pay looks like for those jobs?
  21. @Udevine @TellMeSomethingGood @secondtimer14 I deeply appreciate your candor and insights. I fully agree on the importance of having a clear picture of the program, commitment and realities of competing responsibilities. It is definitely sobering to read your feedback, and I may ultimately need to defer any acceptances until my family is in a position to move. Having more clarity on the schedule and options (and absence of options) is super helpful in thinking through my situation. I can see that I would need to rent an apartment/room in an apartment, at the very least, and plan to be on campus for most if not all of each week (throughout the first fall semester at a minimum). A couple more questions for you: 1. Do most people need/have a car? Do you need one for the GEPN year, or can you do without it GEPN year as long as you live close to campus? 2. Do you have a sense from specialty year students how many of them work part-time as RNs? I have no desire to try to work during the GEPN year, but would really like to earn money and gain experience during the MSN years. Is it pretty easy to get a per diem/PT job in the area as RN who does not have a BSN? Do you know what the pay looks like for those jobs? 3. Any suggestions for favorite neighborhoods to explore if I'm able to come out for Admitted Students day? Any specific insight into where students with kids/families mostly live would be especially appreciated. I've been to the main Yale campus a couple of times but really do not know the area/CT.
  22. In for Nurse-Midwifery/WHNP! I am beyond thrilled and so badly hoping I can make it work to join many of you in the fall! Sending big, warm hugs to those with tough news today. I've heard LOTS of people say they did not get in the first year they applied, they asked for feedback on their applications and then got in on the second round. So, if Yale is your dream, stick with it! Did anyone else apply to the Community Scholars program and NOT have anything in their acceptance letter about those decisions being outstanding? I did receive a merit scholarship, but there is no mention of the Community Scholars program and I did apply on time.
  23. I would be SO grateful if they would give us a likely date/time. The anticipation and distraction are brutal! I'm sure they don't want to overpromise and underdeliver, though. Uff. Sending hugs and luck to all of you!

Hearing from parents is also such a gift as I pursue a career change, trying to balance personal goals and family duty. Thank you, thank you! I may ask a few more questions as they arise, if that's alright. You guys are awesome!
  25. Thank you, @Udevine! I am truly so grateful for this community and your willingness to answer detailed questions. It means a lot as I navigate this process. So, no labs at all this/Spring semester? It sounds like, for clinicals, students can express a preference about their schedule. Is that only with respect to 12 vs. 6 hour shifts or is there also some student input about which days they prefer to have clinicals? Do you view being in class as helpful (somewhat, very, not at all?) to doing well in courses? Or do you think it's possible to master the didactic material by studying the text closely and studying hard? I would really like to be in all the classes, ideally, either in-person or via a zoom link if any faculty would accommodate that. I have a super strong work ethic, but I'm approaching this with humility and trying to realistically assess whether I could do well in classes without attending lectures. I'm contemplating commuting by plane, being on campus as many days as absolutely necessary, then flying home hopefully for 3-4+ days to spend as much time with my kids and husband as possible. I have three young kids in school and my husband is suddenly in a job transition, and he really does not want to move our whole family across the country. I am trying to think through any possible way I could make this dream become reality. Are exams all in person? Are exams on weekdays during class time or are they scheduled outside of class time? Are any exams virtual or do you need to be on campus with a professor/proctor? Thank you!
