  1. Anyone can complain to the BRN for ANY reason. I was turned in 2 years ago because I missed an email that gave me a directive... coincidentally I notified my employer that I quit the next morning for reason already reported to them. Harassment from my supervisor with NO support from admin. My license may be on the line as stupid and silly this sounds, the BRN felt it warrants legal intervention and am now looking at being involved with a hearing... yea that is right a friggin hearing. The fact that my lack of actions did not cause a patient to be in any danger, he was still in the hospital, under medical care, and due to to be discharged home under hospice. The specific complaint stated that I failed to do a head assessment prior to Hospice , attempting to admit him. I did not get the request that I was aware of to do an assessment on this patient that is what the board wants to take my license away for so, saying that you can be charged or accused of anything even as stupid and as simple as what I got.
  2. Hi there, specifically I quit this job 2/2/23. I got a letter from the BRN in June of 2023. I hired my atty that same month. In December of 2023 I have a formal interview of an investigator on behalf of the BRN. 1 Year and 3 months later I got a court document indication they are pursuing my accusation. I hope this break down helps.
  3. A few years back I was working for a horrible hospice agency and I knew shortly after my 2nd month I wasn't staying. I had serious issues with harassement from my then acting supervisor. I was micromanaged to the point I was stressed going to work, receiving 30-50 text messages a shift. I couldn't do anything without my manager on the phone. I had given her no reason to this. I complained to our director, nothing happened. As I was going to into work on time on my last day the manager texted me asking where am I? I messaged I am outside my appt where I am suppose to be. I lost my mind with this constant inquiry and doubt of me. I texted back I quit. I am bringing my things into the office. I am done here. SHort of the long they filed a complain to the BRN against my license. There was a laundry list of complaints. I hired an atty, had an interview and waited a year and a half later to get a certified document- they are pursuing the accusation of incompetence and unprofessional conduct. The claim was I was directed to do an admission on a patient the day before, That was not entirely true. Admissions happen in the place of service,n not at the hospital where this patient was……. However, it doesn't matter as out of the laundry list of complaints that one is it. I retained the same atty I had before. California is an at will state, but that doesn't seem to apply here. My Director was upset because she had to go out and finishe what she claimed was my assignment. Also, resigning before I started work was a factor in this.... Nobody died, nobody was hurt. But here I am going into battle for my license after 30 years of being an RN, mostly hospice....
  4. Hello colleagues. Please bear the long read. It's necessary so you know the history I managed to check my email this morning before pulling out of my driveway for work. I received a notification that my last employer turned me into the BRN. The background is I am an RN hospice speciality and left that employer before my 90 days was even up. I had major issues with personality and micromanaging to the point I felt it was harassment. The job I had was not patient hands on care. They had me working at a satellite contracted hospital where I was available to help with admissions to a GIP unit there withing the hospital. I had a supervisor who went on medical leave and left me messages via text indicating that I would be reporting to our non licensed marketer. I was with this company 2 months and they never managed to get clearance for me to be able to fully function within my job I was hired for. The hospital EMR was never available for me to do the required documentation. My supervisor who was on leave texted me the day I quit.( I had spoke to admin about my concerns and asked to move to another position in the company so I can actually care for patients. It was declined stating I needed to stay where I was. ) None the less, I was driving into my hospital and I got a message from my at home medical leave boss asking me to text her when I am there and report what unit I am on so she knows where I am at. This was the straw.... I messaged her back I am done. I have received 30-50 group text messages from this person and her marketer. I drove to the office and physically spoke to the executive director and another clinical supervisor. I told them why I as resigning.. they listened, admitted some issues but asked if I would resconsider. I said only if things will change, the answer was no. My Director stated he sees my mind was made up and I said it is. At no time did I hear they needed me to complete anything, and in fact I didn't have any patients under my care or waiting referrals. I handed in all my equipment and left. I never was never written up, nor did I have any counseling or performance improvement plans. 4 months later I get this complaint send to me It is alleged you engaged in unprofessional conduct, gross negligence and/or incompetence for failing to evaluate and admit patients properly. It is alleged you resigned from work without completing admission notes or updating leadership on pending patient referrals or documentation. I feel this is completely retaliatory. I have malpractice insurance. But it is scary seeing this complaint. Does retaliatory complaints happen and what does the BRN do if its not warranted?
  5. Hello Nursing Colleagues, I am in a place not too many finds themselves. I will be relocating to a new county in a month or so and I had put out my application to various employers looking for hiring. This is the situation. I am a hospice RN with 15+ years of experience. I interviewed at a nice smaller hospice company that needs a nurse manager, with a remote office in their home to over see day to day business. I was offered a job at Kaiser for a visiting nurse position also. This is the kicker. I interviewed at Kaiser 6 weeks ago. I didn’t get myself cleared for hiring for over 6 weeks. I interviewed at the other private hospice several weeks ago. I accepted the job there as it seemed KP was lost and not going to clear my background. #1 KP has rigid rules, is UNION, pays well, excellent insurance benefits. I would be mobile seeing patients and followed by their IT devices for productivity and closely monitored by management. #2 Private Hospice- I would be a nursing supervisor, work from home. Pay is slightly higher than Kaiser, but insurance sucks. I mean sucks badly. This company countered offered when I declined based on insurance coverage. They opted a large increase to offset the insurance issues.. whether I pay for my own, do cobra or use theirs which is horrific. Private insurance is not cheap it’s about $12-1400 a month for the non kaiser job. The increased pay offer does offset this to about 400-600 a month for insurance. I could use some advice here. ? I feel lost.
  6. My first hospital I worked at was a very popular local hospital that catered to some cutting edge medical care. I worked there 5 years. I did med surg for a couple of years, got incredibly board and moved onto float pool which was my favorite! I worked ER, SUB, DOU and all adult medical surgical floors. Here I am 25 years later.. doing something very different. However, having that hospital on my resume has always been a source of positivity for any interview…. Just a perspective. Large hospitals offer more resources and cross training.. YOLO
  7. I am at a loss for words. I was hired about 10 years ago at KP, worked there 3 years, left on good terms. I applied recently for a new job in a new area as I was moving. I was interviewed, and offered the job asap. this was over 30 days ago. I provided everything Kaiser needed for background check. I mean everything, transcripts, diploma, CPR it was all covered. I have a clean background. I also was hired previously with the same degree I have. 30 days later, I have still not cleared my background. The reason is they can’t verify my BSN despite everything being submitted and in fact documents were submitted several times because of the repetitive requests. My transcripts were sent 2-3 times and was my diploma. I gave notice and have just a few weeks of time left at my current job. I reached out to KP and “they still are working on my background”. I have done all the medical things, TB, medical clearance and even MMR shot, and blood work. That was weeks ago! I was approached by a company who I interviewed with awhile ago. They offered a sweet position that I put on hold for a week think KP would get it together. I feel horrible I made them wait. But for some reason Kaiser can’t get it together. I accepted the other job and just for kicks and giggles… I am going to wait to see if KP ever produces anything. Thanks for the pre employment screening Kaiser, my new employer appreciates you. This has been nothing but a bad let down…. Big time. Peoples livelihoods depend on work. Kaiser seems to think we are free for anything anytime. No wonder they are Union.
  8. There seems to have been a generation of people that were in that bracket of patients. Back in -the late 90’s I did home health for a local hospital. That area used to be upper white middle class. Just saying it as it was. I happen to be Caucasian and at that time never felt issues with my own race as it was UNTIL.. I met it straight up racist older man about 70. So that would if made him born in the 1920’s… he told me he wanted a nurse only once a week. It had to be a female and white. He specifically stated I want a white gurl nurse on Wednesday only. My manager who is still a friend of mine today… assigned him a very capable middle aged male nurse. Looking back that area where I worked is completely diversified and most of that nonsense died with the people of that age bracket… but I have NO doubt it exists… have seen it since but not as blatent as the white woman on Wednesday.
  9. Thank you so much.
  10. I have been an RN a long time. I have a varied background home health, hospice and in patient case management. I would like to get away from pounding the pavement and driving so much. During COVID my job I had at that time went home based, virtual I really enjoyed this and did get my work done.. however more and more companies have gone back to regular office situations. Any suggestion??
  11. I have seen small mom and pop home health and hospice companies lack diversity in their staff. Like the company is ran and employed by fellow family members, friends of the family who are like ethnically. I am curious if others see this as a negative thing. I have strayed away from the smaller mom and pop companies just for this reason.
  12. This has come across my plate and I don’t know the answer. One of my friends office has an offsite person who does QA/ QI on documentation. This person is NOT a nurse, not licensed of even clinical. Yet, they submit directives for corrections and required documentation needed for clinical patients this organization treats…. It smells out of line. Also there is no RN supervisor ever.. only and LVN office manager who directs the nurses!
  13. I agree with you. Thank you for pointing out the manager who is sad to say also an owner of the company is completely lacking in managment woefully so. Well good for you..FYI the thermometer was actually BROKEN. And Yes, I too carry a manual blood pressure cuff, that was not the issue but thanks for the tips.
  14. I think maybe I focused too much on the family and their words to me.. I am more annoyed and put off by the fact the owner of said company my supervisors response…. The family I know were not in the best mind set when I was there. I think I was taking on too much of the feeling of being ganged up on. There were a good number of family members just kinda standing there with hands on hips. I was bizarre and I get that. They don’t know the first thing of what we all do, but our manager does… and the sense of dis belief is a huge red flag.
  15. Thank you so much. I honestly told my superior I am NOT owning any of this. He was very upset about it but I told him none of it is what happened, and I will not take it. The family ripped me up in front of an audience, NOT ONE person said wait.. she is here to help our dying family member. SOMTIMES.. I really hate this line of work.
  16. Hello colleagues, I have been an RN for 30 years about half of that is within the field of hospice. The only position I have never done due to no desire is administrator. None the less that is my background in a nutshell. I was assigned as a CM to a patient that was not doing well. Actively transitioning. The patient was admitted a day before and I was the one seeing them the next day. I arrived to the home with a huge family present in the living room with the patient. I introduced myself and went right into my assessment. My electronic thermometer stopped working. The family all sat in a semicircle and just watched me. One whispered OMG she is going to take the temperature. I advised the batteries may of stopped working non the less I couldn’t take a temp but all other vitals were done. I did a head to toe assessment, asked the right questions to get my data. I even called the pharmacy about some missing items while I was there. I also was asked if I would be bathing the patient and I advise the family our CHHA or hospice aid would be out today to do this. The Chaplain arrived and it was. Full house. As I was wrapping up my visit. I once again was speaking to the audience of staring family members. The patients wife was bedside. I noted when I asked a question I was getting one or two worded answers. Yes, no. Etc. I gave them some resources for reading ( a well known booklet) and advised them to call hospice anytime 24/7. It was then I had one family member ask me what is the difference between and RN and a CHHA and LVN. They then proceeded to say that I was no where near as thorough as my LVN was! I stated the I am sorry spell and then another family member again reiterated that and added I don’t look like I know what I am doing. It was at that point I picked up my bag. Started having tears flowing and said I will see myself out. Upon that I left. I was at this home 60 minutes. I notified my manager etc. I explained it what happened and was in tears the entire time. Grant it. I know what I did and I did nothing wrong. I also reiterated that I did a complete assessment enough to fill out our documentation and then some.. so I was there and assessing. The next day my manager called me. He told me the family felt I was rushed. The family felt I was too matter of fact for them. That I didn’t take a temperature. That I wouldn’t provide bathing care to the patient and the worst?? I told them an RN doesn’t put chucks under patients. I answered that I will not own any of these accusations. I just won't I know what I did. My manager said, “I don’t know I wasn’t there. I have to remain neutral” and that “he was counseling me”. I once again told him I am not owning it… and didn’t feel I did anything wrong. He pushed back and said he doesn’t know for fact and that he will remain neutral. I am so upset that a manger a director or patient care services does not have their employees back. If I was rush.. would I stay 60 minutes? that is the first BS lie I challenged. I feel like this is something I can’t let go. How can an director not believe an employee with such out to left field accusations?? It does not fit my work, no other patients have every complained about me on this level and the “I don’t know I wasn’t there speel”.
