  1. I think the contract time depends on the unit needs. Mine is 15 months in ED but previous residencies in the ED have had contracts as long as 3 years.
  2. I have no idea. I only saw that first week schedule on the email she sent a few weeks ago.
  3. Do you have the contact info for the unit manager that hired/interviewed you? If not, you could ask the recruiter for the info. I would send an email to the manager to let them know the situation. I received an email from my unit educator with a basic schedule so I would bet that you will receive something soon. Our schedule in the ED that first week is M-F so hopefully yours is the same and you will be off on Saturday for the wedding.
  4. Both are good options, for sure! Would you regret it if you didn't at least go through with the interview process for Children's? After the interview you might have more insight as to whether or not it's a good fit for you. If working with children is really where you ultimately want to be then I would say starting at Children's might be a better fit for you, even if it isn't NICU. What are the other tracks? Parkland will give you excellent training but you probably won't see many kids in the ED since Children's is next door. I would do the interview and get more information and then make your decision. I took at job at Parkland in the ED as well but still took an interview for a surgical nursing position at THR the following week. The interview went great but it definitely solidified my decision to be in the ED, surgical nursing is not for me. Good luck with your decision!
  5. That's great that you have experience! Most of the interview questions were behavioral, like what did you do when you had a conflict with a coworker? They wanted to know my background and skill set. Pretty predictable questions. I'm sure the tone is set by the hiring manager. My interview was the ED manager and a nurse in charge of the residency program, just two people. Good luck!! I hope you land an offer ? They just want to make sure that you are someone they can work with and are willing to learn and grow.
  6. That's great! So I just declined the UTSW offer, so Parkland it is! Would love to connect.
  7. Yes! I agree, you can't go wrong with Parkland on your resume. This was my top choice, I think I need to go with my gut.
  8. BabyNurse101 did you take the NICU job at Parkland or the Baylor job?
  9. Thank you for helping me work through this!! That really does help. I'm so glad you had a good experience at Parkland for your clinicals. It was a great interview and I think it will be a good fit for me. That is a good point, I can always change hospitals after residency.
  10. Thanks y'all, that is helpful. This is why it's such a struggle, the managers at UTSW were so great, I can tell I would learn so much but I did NOT want med surg. I said I'd never work in med surg after that rotation, LOL. Parkland has been so disorganized, I haven't gotten replies from the recruiter or the managers to emails sent. I worry this is a bad sign. And yes, Parkland has a two year contract. There is no contract and better benefits and pay for UTSW. But I love the ED.
  11. Hey there- Hoping you have some insight for me! I have residency offers from Parkland in the ED and UTSW in acute surgical and I don't know which one to accept. I haven't had clinical at either location. Any insight into working at either hospital or know people who have been through the residency program? They both seem great, my heart is in ED but I really liked the managers at UTSW.
