  1. RN for 3 years, no dialysis experience and offered 28.50 FMC. In NJ. So far the orientation is great, everyone very friendly and helpful.
  2. This post is 4 years ago and the original person posted this has since graduated. I finished St. Francis in 07 along with her.
  3. Yes, I keep my phone with me at all times,on viberator but, I never answer it when I am with a patient. think it is rude to have a personal conversation... however MD's answer their phones all the time and they never get any complaints.
  4. I understand all too well... They want you to leave even thought there there is RN assigned to the unit you are on right? no one to relieve you. It comes down to ratio and money. I would have stayed too, if the ratio was reasonable. I worked in 2 nursing homes and from my experience they are all the same... please someone one prove me wrong. I would give it another chance if the working conditions were right.
  5. Princeton has a program for new BSN grads...
  6. If they called you in for an interview that is something to be THANKFUL for! Hope it all works out for you.
  7. WHERE? I am going to get my PA or NY license...
  8. That's only for BSN with 3.0 GPA starts in August.
  9. Well, for almost 2 years now, I still can't get a job in a hospital! I should have considred that OR position iin 07 , but, I don't think I will like it, standing there all day, as a scrub nurse, I wouldn't mind circulating... Today there is a open house in Princeton House, I'll try my luck there...I am just going to get what I can get at this point. Any suggestions...
  10. Are you still in Princeton, if so, how is it?
  11. My suggestion is to continue reviewing with Kaplan, the last thing you need is to add more stress by adding more study materials. If you are going to purchase something else, HESI with the CD it's $65. Take the tests w/CD along with your Med/Surg book. Take the tests over and over again. Take Kaplan over and over again. I scored with Kaplan in 2007 with an average of a 63%. I passed NCLEX with 75 Questions; your not far off. Breathe, Pray, Study, Test...
  12. Are you in contact with any former classmates? perhaps you can network with them or maybe even start taking classes again... have your loan payments deferred during this time due to lack of FT work and/or return to school. Also, maybe you need a better resume?
  13. You need to evaluate the reasons why you failed; were you prepared? were you stressed? overwhelmed? then take a look at what you can do to improve the circumstances, maybe a 2 year college is better for you right now- take all your pre-req's first so then you can just take NURSING courses at a 2 yr. school. OR maybe you should hang in there and pick yourself up and come up with a plan to succeed! You made it this far...
  14. Ok, here's the deal; your options As a new grad-you're most likely to get a night job in a hospital. Nursing home, Correctional, Psych are more flexible because, most are desperate and you can work all shifts. You can also try agencies, they hire NG, pay is higher but, there is a chance of getting cancelled. I use to work for Harborside Healthcare in Bridgewater, NJ and now I'm with CureStaffing Agency.
  15. I worked for TPH - it was HORRIBLE and so unprofessional, well not everyone was unprofessional-but, it was and is a DUMP. NOT FOR ME! I currently work in Occupational Health a per-diem position- I like it, I have alot of down time; which allows me to work towards my BSN. I plan to continue to work per diem until I get a FT day position in the hospital one day.
  16. keep it off, employers will hold it against you; I did the same thing, but, I had secured another job before I left.
  17. Is anyone going to MCCC/Felician? I have just applied to Felician fast track (RN-BSN)- that is going to be held at Mercer County Community College for 19 months, it's one day per week 8:30-4:30pm and the only requirement is that you are a RN, I currently have 2 more weeks at Chamberlain's online class and the reason I am leaving that school is because, it's too darn expensive and they don't have much in financial aid. So I just hope that these 2 classes transfer in to Felician, otherwise it's just been a waste of alot of money and time.
  18. I am at Chamberlain RN-BSN and if you like writing papers it's good, if not, look elsewhere. But it is NOT EASY! like some may think.
  19. I remember that story last year. Well, Nursing homes will hire! Harborside in Bridgewater NJ Also St. Barnabas Hospitals Hire New Grads. Some agencies will hire new grads. Go to job fairs, there is one coming up in Atlantic City in a few weeks sponsored by Advance. And Corrections hire new grads. Not sure exactly where your located, but you gotta keep looking. www.craigslist.com I actually got my first job through craigslist.
  20. Is it because you studied too much or not enough? I'm not being sarcastic, it's because, my worst test grade is school is when I studied TOO much and didn't focus on the real nursing objectives. Nursing tests are different they are set up to focus on nursing care, interventions. Ask your self is the question asking? an assessment or an action? Take a deep breath! Get that oxygen flowing - don't go right into answering a question- CALM DOWN! Relax then answer it.
  21. I work in LTC per diem. I had NO order to flush the peripheral line with heparin and therefore did not and refused to do so. The nursing supervisor then wrote in the orders "flush line with heparin" "(SASH). Later, found out that the pt. is also on coumadin. I asked, where is the policy and procedure book in relation to flushing lines, it was not produced either. I was then told that in LTC this is how we do it, this is not a hospital. I just want to know, is this right? Are Peripheral lines flushed with 5ml of (100units/ml) of heparin?????? I thought only PICC and central lines. Peripheral lines are SHORT TERM not long term and can be maintained with Normal saline, RIGHT????? I also, witness the nurses writing there own medical orders and later having the MD sign them. I refuse to do that also, I will only write an order if I received it from the MD even as simple as tylenol or maalox. I also received an order from a MD to give 1mg of morphine to a pt with pulse O2 of 84-86% room air. I refused to give that also, when I stated to the unit manger that it woud depress her respirations even more, she disagreed. They later gave the morphine after I left and the pt. died. I heard one nurse state that is was for the pain, but the pt. was not in pain and another then said, it was a mercy killing. So, yesterday, I had a patient on comfort care he denies pain but, I was told to give her Roxanol PRN and they kept saying it, as if I was not going to look it up- IT"S MORPHINE! This is against my morals and values I do not believe in mercy killing although I try to understand the views of others, it is not my place to decide.
  22. They do hire new grads. My commute was 1hour and 15 minutes 7a-7p orientation and after that I would have been 1p-1a, but resigned after 60 days because, it was just too overwhelming for me, I was drained by the end of the day. They only hire for FLEX ( all shifts) meaning you have no say. The starting pay for a new grad $24.92, I worked in the ER. They were very supportive and a good place to gain experience. I hear that they have a low retention rate most new hires work less than one year. Down side, The pay is not worth it atleast for me because, my cost of living in central NJ is more than South jersey. I now work in a Sub acute facility 8hour shift and like it alot 30min. Good luck KMC is a good place to gain experience if that's what you are looking for, staff has it's good and has it's mean and nasty, unfortunately that's everywhere.
  23. Looks like you have some more brain storming to do, but DO NOT GO to a NON ACCREDITED SCHOOL, it's a waste of time and money. Lower cost of living, means lower wages. Forget about the house for now and complete the Nursing Program, is this a LPN or RN program? Other option stay in a cheap motel if it will save you money, otherwise SACRIFICE is the only way you can do this. Write out your options with pro's and cons and make your decision. Also, you are young, you do have time, also you can attend your local college and complete the PRE-REQUISTES for RN first- highly recommended. Other job options: Get certified in Phlebotomy, CNA in case you decide to move closer to the school. One more thing, if you commute an 1-2hours- this a great time to study and review your recorded class lectures(record the classes or buy review course online).
  24. I passed the first time 75 Questions 1 hour, I expected to be there for 5 hours and more than 75 questions, atleast 125. I used the Priority and Delegation book 3 days before the test! This after using Kaplan, Hesi, Davis NCLEX review. I was well prepared, but more than thankful for the P and D book, because after #30, my questions were based on P & D. So my advice to you is to use your study material(Kaplan etc) but a few days or a week before don't forget about the P & D!!!!!! and go over test taking strategies. the test expects you to get 50% right 50% wrong. Don't beat yourself up, BREATHE, don't rush, Pray, Pray, Pray, Breathe- your brain needs the oxyen! basic math, basic meds - yes you will see meds you never heard of, don't get caught up with that. Learning how to take a test is Key- not really about learning or memorizing everything-it's how to pick out the right answer- going with your gut. God Bless you.
