Should I leave MedSurg for Corrections (State Max Security)
Hello. I have been an RN for a year and 8 months now and am really looking to leave med/surg. I have a love hate relationship with this specialty. Some days are good and most days are so bad. I think that I have been better at handling bad days now compared to when I was a new grad. I have seen multiple threads of people talking about corrections nursing. They either love it or hate it, no in between. I know that adjusting to a slow, outdated system will be a huge annoyance to me. Old equipment will be another thing to adjust to. I will have to go through another orientation and probably feel like a new grad all over again. Just wondering if I should take the risk and leave MedSurg? I am in the state of Oregon, and will be going into a men's max security state prison

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center - New Grad Sept 2024 Cohort
I think that's a good sign! I heard when your candidate portal is gone, it means you got the job. They basically make you "reapply" so they can put your application as an official employee. goodluck!

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center - New Grad Sept 2024 Cohort
Still the same status. They scheduled me for an interview on the 23rd at 12pm. I showed up and they said all interviews were canceled because joint commission was there. They said they forgot to notify some interviewees. They called me today and rescheduled me for an interview on the 29th at 11am but I'm not available that day, and they said there's no other appointments open. So I'm automatically out of the list.

Huntington Hospital RN Residency Fall Cohort, August 2024
I think the base and avg hourly pay are the same if you work the full 12 hours. So yeah, we technically are on the base pay (43.90). But they pay overtime (x1.5) after 8 hours so an average pay is 51.22 for dayshift. For night shift, avg pay is 56.22 if you work the full 12hrs.

Huntington Hospital RN Residency Fall Cohort, August 2024
I was offered a position in Med/Surg unit. Here's the details for their pay: Base rate: $43.90 x 8 hours = 351.20 Overtime rate: 65.85 x 4 hours = 263.40 Avg. total pay per day = 614.60 Avg. hourly pay = $51.22 Night Shift Differential: $5.00 Avg. hourly pay with night shift Differential: $56.22

Huntington Hospital RN Residency Fall Cohort, August 2024
I just did my interview for the medical/surgical unit. Here's the questions they asked: - tell me about yourself - weaknesses and strengths - which subject did you excel in nursing school and what made you do so well in it - conflict with a coworker/customer and how did you manage it? - a time you disagreed with a new rule/policy and how did you handle it

Interpreting ATI board vitals
hi! did you end up passing the NCLEX just with boardvitals?
-
Huntington Hospital RN Residency Fall Cohort, August 2024
They called me today to confirm when I'm taking the NCLEX (I don't have a license yet). I told them I'll be taking it next week and the person on the phone said she'll still consider me for an interview. She did say that technically we're supposed to have a license by application date but since I'm taking it soon, they'll still consider it. They said they'll start calling people for interviews once the application closes and interviews will be on the first two weeks of July. All interviews are online (Microsoft Teams). Goodluck everyone! It's been hard to get a new grad job.

Please critique my cover letter!
Hello! I am really struggling with writing cover letters. I'm graduating from my program in a month and most residency programs have opened up... Please critique my cover letter and let me know how I can improve. Thank you! Dear Hiring Manager, I am writing this letter to express my interest in XXX's Pediatrics RN Residency. My personal journey as an immigrant deeply influenced my understanding of the importance of culturally sensitive healthcare. I arrived in United States at the age of 17, and I encountered firsthand the barriers to accessing healthcare and advocating for myself and my family. My journey exposed me to diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives, which is why I have a strong passion for patient advocacy and cultural competency. With almost four years of customer service experience and a background as a caregiver, I've developed strong communication skills. In these roles, I always valued empathy and compassion in every interaction. My background was incredibly helpful during my pediatrics preceptorship because I was able to effectively interact with a diverse range of patients and families, providing them with the support and care they needed. I also developed efficient time management, prioritization, and team collaboration skills, enabling me to adapt in a busy acute care environment. I am dedicated to continuous learning and growth, and I approach each opportunity as a chance to acquire new skills and provide the best possible care. I am resilient, have a strong work ethic, and I actively seek feedback to enhance my skills and address any areas that need improvement. I am confident that XXX's commitment to compassionate, high-quality, and culturally responsive healthcare will allow me to grow into a high performing new grad nurse. I am eager to contribute to XXX's mission by embodying its emphasis on nursing excellence, patient-centered care, and commitment to equity and inclusion. I would be so pleased to be able to speak with you about an opportunity to become part of your team. You can contact me by telephone (xxx) xxx-xxx, or by email [email protected]. Sincerely, XXXXXXXXXX

Question on CHF exacerbation cause. Can post-op pacemaker cause this?
OMG!! Thank you! You are so incredibly helpful. You gave me so much info. Thank you again!

Question on CHF exacerbation cause. Can post-op pacemaker cause this?
Wow thank you for all this information! I appreciate all this help. Unfortunately I don't know if her pacemaker is single or double chamber. Her echocardiogram revealed: ejection fraction is 20-25%, mild to moderate mitral valve regurgitation. She also has a hx paroxysmal atrial fib. Her ECG revealed atrial-speed ventricular-paced rhythm, buventeicular paced rhythm. —> I actually don't even really know what this means... so I'm not sure if this info answers your questions. She also has heart murmurs "grade 3/6 pan systolic, high frequency murmur.” I don't know what this means either. Sorry! Still, I'm really thankful for your response and your help. Thank you for your info on interventions! Have a great night!
