  1. Hi everyone, I'm in the middle of a graduate MSN program to finish up as an FNP while working as a staff RN in critical care. I am confused about the choice of certifying entities when it comes to FNP certification. Is there one that is more respectable than the other? (ANCC vs. AANP) I've heard various opinions....some say both are same and other same one is better than the other but I haven't really heard enough to make a decision on which certifying exam to take? Any thoughts, comments, suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks. Is there truly a "better" certifying body between ANCC and AANP?
  2. Hi Nate2, I just took my NCLEX-RN on Thursday the 20th and ended at 75 questions as well. Like you I do not want to hold my breath for anything until the final results. Also, like you, it isn't my first time taking the darn test. I had a crap load of delegation/prioritization questions at the end...about 30 or more I think. Not sure if that means anything but the darn computer shut off at 75 and so I guess it's 3 business days to see my name on the BRN website in the case of a positive outcome. I wish you the best of luck and wanted to let you know that I'm in a very similar boat. You're not alone in your situation. Have faith! Jack
  3. Jonathon, Yeah I did all that and they said my file is complete, which leaves only one logical conclusion. hmmmm....complete file, no name on the web, been more than 10 working days. Need I say more? I got my tissue ready, hehe.
  4. Hey Jonathon, I took my California NCLEX-RN on the 10th this month and haven't heard anything. I also stopped at 75 with a good feeling that I passed. HOWEVER, I have not seen my name up on the website nor heard anything. I am reluctantly preparing for the negative outcome in my mind. My friends who have passed all tell me they have seen their names up on the website in 3-7 working days, so I guess that means I should get ready for the bad news. As for you, I would tell you that we're in a similar boat, but I'm just waiting a bit longer than I can stand. It is cruel and unsual punishment. I hope this info helps you somewhat.
  5. Chelle, Thank you. I'm sorry to rant and ramble about issues that most have gone through and most have only experienced for 3-4 days (as that is the usual time of BRN web posting in California). You're absolutely right. This ineffective coping must stop here and now. It's like anticipatory grieving if I can even call it that. The idea of failing at 75 tells me I must really have missed the mark and be a complete idiot when it comes to nursing!! That's what puts me in denial. If I finished at 100+ or even 265 I would be more accepting of an impending failure, but at 75? Just a bit hard to swallow. To complete your analogy of basketball which I thought was a good one, finishing at 75 mean one of two things: SWISH or AIRBALL. I would've figured that I would at least bounced it off the rim or backboard right? When all is said and done, the white envelope has not arrived and I'm only driving myself into a psychosis by not seeing my name on the BRN website and thinking that I must be the lousiest free-throw shooter in history!! LOL. Before I put myself through a severe anxiety panic attack and hypertensive crisis, I will do what I know theoretically to be "good interventions": socialize, resume hobbies (did I even have any before nursing school?: P), and relax. There's nothing I can do about it now. Thanks again for hearing me out. Peace, Jack
  6. Thanks ccjacquelyn, Will do! I'll try to keep my chin up, but this waiting is cruel and unusual. Unsure of how to describe it......like a wound each day that doesn't heal, but worsens. I mean, how many people, in essence get paperwork confirmation BEFORE seeing their name on the BRN in California? None that I know of.
  7. HI Alpha, as I understand it, each nursing school has its own pre-reqs and specific application process. It may behoove you to email the director of the nursing program or someone in charge of the admissions process. EAch school should have a website which details what needs to be done, what forms to fill out and what fees to pay. I hope this is somewhat helpful. In my experience, you apply to the school first then you specifiy nursing as a major and there may be other forms to fill out that are specific to the nursing department. Best of luck to ya!
  8. Chelle, thank you for you encouragement. Yes, the nauseous, uneasy feeling that I probably did not pass is overwhelmingly strong. The strange thing is that I felt that I actually knew the material this time around and went through 2 different Q & A books which totaled to about 3500 questions, studying all rationales and getting 75-80% accuracy etc etc. I came out of the exam, feeling pretty good since I felt answered a lot of them right. I ended at 75 which I thought was a good indication, compared to my first try which was almost 200!! Could it be that I'm that far off from my perceptions of the exam vs reality? Even if I got a lot wrong, the computer would have let me answer more questions, not simply shut down right? Thats the one things that is nagging me: finishing at 75 with a relatively good feeling abou the exam, yet no word. I started getting restless after a week had passed without evidence of licensure. In any case, my name not up on the BRN website within a week pretty much means failure in my book. It's just a matter of waiting for the official letter.
  9. Suzanne4, Thanks for the replies on all my postings. Sorry about the multiple posts but I thought maybe I had posted in the wrong places. Kinda new here but I will definitely look into what you said. I will call ASAP near 9AM to the BRN and figure out if my file is complete or not. Will they then tell me the steps I would need to take in the event of some file deficiency? I would presume so. Thank you again for your thorough reply and suggestions. It is very much appreciated!
  10. Hello everyone, my name is Jack and I'm from California. I just graduated from an ASN nursing program and took the NCLEX-RN on the 10th. I only had 75 questions and have been checking the BRN website every single day. I felt confident walking out of the exam but am now experiencing a lot of self-doubt and "what if's", due to not seeing my name on the website. Can anyone who has recently taken the NCLEX-RN tell me what the average time is to post a new license on the BRN website? I'm driving myself insane, checking it 50 times a day. It is simply difficult not knowing one's fate. From what I've read so far in this forum, it seems like a few of you are in the same boat, waiting to hear results. I did not know you can call the board and get results over the phone. I do not think that is possible in California. I did try calling to see but the recording just says "due to high volume of calls, your call cannot be answered at this time, please try agian later". Great! Can anyone give me feedback or advice on post-NCLEX issues, with the exam stopping at 75 questions and no word via internet or regular mail in about 9 days so far? Thanks! I know that most of my friends who've passed have seen their name on the BRN website in 3-4 days and it's been close to 10 for me. Can anyone give a detailed explanation of why it would take such a long time to post one's name on the website? (unless, of course, I failed at 75, despite the amount of studying I did)
