  1. I've been working in the OR for 1.5 years now...five 8's the whole time. I'm in the middle of a job change, and it's really discouraging to see all these OR job posts advertising the same five 8's. As much as I love the OR, it is making me consider re-training for a different nursing specialty.
  2. Hi everyone, I am at my wits end, and would love to hear some advice on how to cope. How do you survive working five 8-hour shifts per week and not burn out? Especially if those five days are sometimes not consecutive, I.e. 3 on, 1 off, 2 on, 1 off which means you don't get a full two-day weekend to actually rest. I feel like I never get to "turn my brain off" and it is eroding my sanity. I also happen to work in the OR, if that matters. Factoring in call shifts, I work 6 days per week for half the month (because I'm on call for 2 weekends per month). It is exhausting and I am not bouncing back. Can anyone please explain to me why 8 hour shifts are becoming so popular in the OR? It is making these 6-shift weeks inevitable (and too frequent). I don't understand why it is so rare for ORs to offer 12 hour shifts like all the other units. Working 6 days per week is making me wish I went into investment banking instead. Thanks in advance!
  3. Hi everyone! I am part of the Spring 2022 cohort! Congratulations to everyone who got accepted this cycle! UC Davis is a fantastic learning environment, and I truly love our residency program!
  4. I've created a Discord server for the 3/14 cohort. We can use it to share announcements, resources, and other info. Looking forward to helping and supporting each other! Join here if you're interested in connecting: https://discord.gg/zGrdZc3V
  5. same here! I'd love to join a FB group so we can all start getting to know each other, and look for housing together ?
  6. No, my preceptorship was in the ICU, and I interviewed before my preceptorship was even finished. I just graduated and still do not have my license at the time of this writing.
  7. Zero OR experience. For this cycle, if you get into ORTP, they are also offering an opportunity to start early in the unit as a nurse extern.
  8. Yes, I was told to submit references the day after my interview. The offer came in Friday, about 4pm, via both phone call and email.
  9. ORTP has sent out decisions. I got an offer this afternoon.
  10. Has anyone who interviewed + submitted references for the ORTP (operating room scrub/circulating nurse position) received either a final rejection or job offer?
