If I attend an out of state program that doesn't have enough direct patient care clinical hours (it has 450 and CA requires 500), can I just get my license and work in that state for one year and then endorse to California? Or will the application be rejected because the program doesn't meet the clinical hours requirement? The program has 750 hours total but they are: 450 direct patient, 300 simulation.

Did anyone here who got into the UCLA new-grad residency program attend nursing school out of state? I'm wondering if that lessens my chances. (I'll graduate May 2025 out of state, coming back to L.A.)

I live in CA and I'm finishing my prereqs at my local CC. I was just accepted into "University of Nebraska Medical Center - Omaha, College of Nursing" for Fall 2023. Please clarify.... you took the NCLEX in CA or NE? I want to work in CA after finishing my degree. Also you said you can only get the multi-state license if you're a resident of NE, but I was told.... "Nebraska is a "Nurse Licensure Compact" state (currently with 38 states). California is not. First I will pass the board exams in NE and then transfer the license to CA using the "license by endorsement" application. Or I could sit for the boards in California. Probably easier to sit for the boards in the weeks after graduation in Nebraska and then transfer the license." I was thinking after completing the license by endorsement for CA I would then be "licensed" for 39 states.

which classes count for the Sci GPA and which for the GE GPA? I can't find it.

I will apply for Fall 2024, but I was looking at the point system and it's not in my favor. I took 3 yrs of Spanish in HS but that doesn't count for the language proficiency points, I don't get the residency points, and I took the 4 science courses over three semesters (not 12 months). Does anyone know what the points cutoff for acceptances has been in the past?

for LB they don't have a point system? They only use the impaction score formula (Science GPA) + (Gen ED GPA/2) + (TEAS Overall x .02) + (TEAS Reading x .02)? No extra points for healthcare experience, bilingual, or being local, etc. ? (to get invited to the communication exercise).

I misspoke the details are a bit foggy because it was a year ago that I was figuring this out. The Chem class at PCC would be accepted by CSULA but not CSUF or CSULB. I could have taken Chem 2A and 2B at PCC for CUSLB, but why take two when I can take one? So I took Chem 51 (Integrated Chemistry) at ELAC which is accepted by all three CSUs, and also PCC. Anyway, the point is, do your homework and don't just take what the CC counselor tells you to take. If I had, I wouldn't have taken the right Chem class for the places I want to apply. Good luck!

Be very careful choosing the Chem class. I had to take it at a different CC than the one I'm attending because I wanted it to be accepted at all the CSUs that I might apply to (and my CC doesn't offer it), as well as CCs. CSUF and CSULB wanted a different Chem than CSULA. If it's not very clear on Assist, email the CSUs you want to apply to and verify that it's accepted. I also decided not to apply to UCLA or UCI because it would take an extra 2 years to get all the prereqs with extremely low odds of being accepted.

I found out from an Honors College representative at CSULA that you must apply for Honors at the time of applying to the university. You can't wait until after you learn if you've been accepted into the BSN program.

Does anyone have experience with being in the Honors College at any university as a BSN student? Is it worth all of the extra work (extra classes, thesis, etc.) to have that designation on my transcript? I was told it could help me get scholarships and also get into Grad school. I'm applying to two programs for Fall 23 BSN. I got an email to apply to the Honors College. The application is due before I'll know if I even got into the BSN program. I want to apply if it will actually benefit me. I know in some careers it's important, but not sure about nursing. I plan to go to grad school eventually to become a nurse practitioner.

I also got the email invitation for the honors college. I'm wondering the same thing. I'm even wondering if it even benefits BSN students to be in the honors college? At my CC it wasn't recommended to take honors courses because it didn't help in any way to get into nursing programs and it was better to focus on higher GPA in regular courses. I took one honors class (Statistics) and got a B in it. All my other classes have been As. I wish I hadn't taken Stats as honors, I would have gotten an A. I would also like to know when we might hear back.

I studied about 2 hours each day, five days/week and didn’t miss a class or lab.

I took Chemistry last Summer. It was 5 weeks and I got an A. I opted to take it all "in-person" because I didn't think I could do well in hybrid. I don't have kids and I live at home with my parents. I took those 5 weeks off from my part-time job. It wasn't too bad because that is the only thing I had to worry about for those 5 weeks.

I need to provide two references for my application. I can use my Physiology professor for one. I've been working as a CNA (float pool) at a hospital for 8 months, but because it's a huge hospital and I'm a floater, there's not really one supervisor or coworker that I know very well to ask for a reference. So, for my second reference, should I use my boss at a sandwich shop that knows me well and I've been working there for four years (I'm a supervisor, so I have a leadership role). Or is it better to use someone who doesn't know me well at the hospital -- my hiring manager at the hospital. She hired me but doesn't really know me after that.

CSULA website says you must complete all prereqs by Dec. 31st (EXCEPT Microbiology). I emailed the school of nursing and confirmed that there is no advantage to having Microbiology complete by December 31, so it's okay that I'm taking it in the Spring (but I'm still skeptical). We can only apply once, ever. Is anyone else applying with Micro in progress?

Is it okay to take the TEAS before taking Microbiology (I read that there's no Microbiology on the TEAS test). Did you buy the $250 ATI TEAS Comprehensive Study Package? Any other resources you used to learn, on Youtube for example. It's overwhelming how many different resources there are. I want to streamline so I don't get confused.

Update...I've decided not to bother with UCLA or UCI since they both require a lot more (and different prerequisites). I also learned that if I take a Chem class at a different community college than the one I'm attending, I can find a Chem class that is accepted at the three CSUs I want to apply to (and the CCs I'll apply to). My advisor didn't offer that info to me, just told me to take their Chem class. I'm glad I did my homework!

Thanks for your detailed response! Can you elaborate on this "1-year experience" Won't all clinicals be done at the CC? Wouldn't the last year of of the BSN take place on the campus of where I am in the Bridge program?

I'm in California. Is there an advantage to Upper Division Transfer BSN vs. ADN-BSN Bridge BSN (at the same university)? For example, I'm taking prereqs at a local community college. Given these two options: 1) After prereqs, attend BSN program at CSU as a transfer student (total 3 years) 2) After prereqs, attend CC for ADN, then bridge to same CSU for the BSN (total 3 years) Is there any advantage to doing the Nursing program at the CSU vs. the CC when you'd be graduating with a BSN from the CSU either way in the same amount of time? I know this is all hypothetical given how hard it is to get in to any program. Let's just assume you can get into either and have a choice.

I'm taking Chem 002A at PCC over the Summer. I'll have two more semesters of prereqs and then apply to BSN programs at UCLA, CSUF, CSULA, CSULB, APU and RN programs at PCC, GCC, LACC. I'm so confused about which Chem class to take. My counselor put me in CHEM 002A at PCC, but it seems it might be the wrong Chem class for Fullerton and for sure wrong for UCLA. What Chem class should I take so it can fulfill the chem requirement for most of these schools? It's so confusing when you want to apply to many schools.
