QA for home based RN
We are contemplating work from home positions soon from our callcenter. I would like some guidelines as to how ,those of you who manage QA w the at home nurse performing telephonic triage, actually monitor them. I will appreciate any and all responses. Thanks, cab6e3

What medical shows do you watch?
I used to watch China Beach, ER and then Trauma: Life in the ER came on, now it's all reruns. Each were my favorite at each era they were on. Love the real stuff, though. Gets my adrenaline going, as if I were still working in the ER, as I did for 20 yrs.

Views on New Grads Entering the ER.
Hi, When I graduated from diploma school in 1967, I had been working in the er on the weekends during my senior yr. I loved it and that became my life for the next 20 yrs! However, at that time, as a new diploma grad you had been exposed to great more clinical experiences, than new grads w adn and bsn grads today. I recall when I had a new bsn grad and asked her to obtain a cath ua. 30 min later it had still had not been done and when I asked her about it, she hung her head and said that she had NEVER catheterized anyone before! I was shocked and immediately called the education dept and told them. Never did I want a new grad w no experience in my er again. Soon, thereafter, they in all their wisdom, developed an internship program for all new grads hired on in the hospital. Needless to say, I am against new grads in the er, if they are not diploma grads and they are, sadly, few and far between now. Too bad.....

911 Access from a callcenter
Our call center has just signed a contract w a very large medicaid hmo population. At times we have had the need to access 911 in a city out of our state, ie a suicide call. We have found that we have to jump through many hoops to finally access the appropriate svc in the other state. Anyone out there in a call center w a solution??? Please respond, asap. Thanks, cab6e3

Lidocaine prior to IV start?
I practiced in an ed for many years, sticking thousands of folks I'm sure, but last yr I needed a gyn procedure done under gen anesthesia and the preop RN used the lido on the dorsum of my hand, as I have poor veins in my forearm. I barely felt the lidocaine stick and did not feel the the larger needle used by the anesthesiologist. It was great! I'm all for it! It did not take but a minute for it to work, certainly not the 30 min someone suggested.

screening applicants for telephonic triage
Hi, I am a new supervisor in a call center and would like to know if anyone out there can assist me. I am having trouble deciding who would be a good fit for telephonic triage. Is anyone using a screening process for applicants? Do you have a test for them to determine their knowledge base and abilities. I look for RNs w either ED, CCU, ICU that have at least 5 yrs of experience. I look at computer skills, verbal skills. I think I have a good candidate and then when I get them in training, I see they are not. Most of the time things work out, but my medical director wants to see some type of screening process, in writing, developed. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks. cab6e3
