NYC starting pay for hospitals for new grads
Sometimes we have to stop focusing too much on money. Yes we need good paying jobs, but sometimes the stress just isn't worth it. In my opinion NYC pays well across the board, however the lack of nursing support and unsafe conditions makes you want to run especially now. Currently I make over $104,000 for Pediatric unit but the tax is a killer plus the stress. Yes we are unionized but that in my opinion is a total waste of money. I just don't see the benefits of the union, honestly. Looking to move to Fl at the end of the year, even though the pay is less. At least I won't be paying State taxes. Tired of the cribe in the big apple.

RN looking to move to Fort Lauderdale from NYC
Sorry for the late response. Thank you. My goal is do travel nursing within Florida. The pay is so much higher. Big difference in pay. If I find something reasonable then I would settle. NY pays high but everything is expensive here. I drive and tolls, gas and parking alone are killers. Thanks for the insight

RN looking to move to Fort Lauderdale from NYC
I would like some advice on relocating to Fort Lauderdale. My goal is to move next year by Christmas. Currently I work on Pediatrics/PICU and float to NICU step down and Nursery. I also have experience with geriatrics and working with children with behavior problems. Currently I am doing my Masters in Nursing with a focus on Public Health. Is Broward Medical a good environment to work? Yes I would like a decent pay, but I want a healthy work environment and good benefits. What other Hospitals are good in the Fort Lauderdale area? How difficult is it to work for Florida State? Also what are decent places to live??

How to deal with change of shift admits
Don't beat yourself up. For future reference find out when is the cut off for admissions. On my unit it is 6am. Work nights and shift ends at 7:30am. If I am busy giving meds, I will do a quick assessment when the patient arrives especially vital signs. If the patient has respiratory problems, I will ensure the that any respiratory medication is given once ordered. The admission is handed to the incoming shift. The key is to ask what time is the cut off. Keep in mind nursing is 24hrs, at some point it has to be handed over. Don't allow anyone to bully you, regardless of how long they are working there. I remember when I started; I pushed back very fast from the start. Best wishes
