  1. If you’re looking for an affordable state school look at University at Buffalo and SUNY Brockport. I got rejected by Stony Brook but accepted into both those schools. Tuition is 25k.
  2. Re: affordable programs in NY. I live in NYC where the most affordable private ABSN programs are about 60k and as much as 115k for NYU or Columbia. I REALLY don’t care to be 60k-100k in debt. I applied to Stony Brook which was my first choice but didn’t get an interview. They are just very competitive because of the tuition and proximity to NYC, same with SUNY Downstate. If you’re willing to move further away from the city I suggest University at Buffalo, which costs 24k and is a great program. Also SUNY Brockport near Rochester. I got into both and even with housing costs they’re far more affordable than private schools. I ended up accepting admission to Villanova near Philadelphia with a half ride scholarship which starts in May. So there are other affordable programs out there with good reputations.
  3. I think that ship has probably sailed unfortunately. I know it’s a competitive program but I thought I’d at least get an interview!
  4. Hi guys, I’ve decided to attend Villanova, so that will open up a spot for those of you on the waitlist ?
  5. Damn, that resume seems like a shoe-in! Fingers crossed for you as well. Don’t give up, we will all be nurses someday!
  6. I have a 3.2 overall GPA, 4.0 in prereqs. I’m a clinical hospice volunteer which I think helped a lot. I think you have a good chance of getting off the waitlist, there were several people last year who did ?
  7. There was nothing about it in the acceptance letter, though I did apply on the application. I wonder when/if we’ll hear about the scholarship for UB. The money Villanova gave me makes it just about the same tuition as UB. The only thing is UB is a shorter program which is appealing. Moving out of NYC is daunting for me.
  8. Just got an email, I’ve been accepted! Now I have a hard decision to make. I got into SUNY Brockport and Villanova as well. I’m leaning towards Villanova since they gave me a half ride scholarship and it’s just outside Philadelphia, much closer to NYC where I currently live.
  9. Found out last week I was awarded the Conway Scholarship which helps a lot, so definitely planning to attend in May! Would love to connect with more classmates and maybe start a fb group or something. Living in New York City with no car so moving to the area around Villanova is definitely daunting, but I’m so excited!
  10. An email said to expect decision’s “early to mid December” so hopefully we’ll hear this week!
  11. Hi, I was accepted last week! Has anyone decided to attend? I’m waiting to hear from the SUNY schools I applied to (got into Brockport already) and also waiting to hear about possible scholarships from Villanova before I decide.
  12. Yes I believe the only start date for the ABSN is mid May.
  13. You got an email to schedule an interview, or you just did one?
  14. SUNY Buffalo, Villanova, and SUNY Brockport. I just found out I got into Brockport so I’m relieved I’m at least going to nursing school. But would much rather live in Long Island than Rochester (I’m from Manhattan).
  15. Hi there! Did you do the early application? I submitted on literally the last day, October 15 (extended from October 1). I have no idea what my chances are but I have a 4.0 in my prereqs, 3.2 in overall GPA, and clinical experience as a hospice volunteer.
  16. Hi there, can anyone currently in the program tell us how it's going? ?
  17. I think the deadline was October 1 earlier this year but they changed it to October 7, so you're good!
  18. I think your including the health insurance on the tuition breakdown, which is not required. It should be a around $25,000.
  19. Yeah I hear California is crazy competitive. Your GPA is super solid! I have a mediocre 3.05 undergrad which makes me nervous, but a 4.0 in the seven prereqs I've finished should bump up my overall to 3.2. I'm also a clinical hospice volunteer. Fingers crossed for both of us.
  20. Thanks for starting this thread! I have no idea if my stats are enough to get me in, but Stony Brook is my #1 choice because of cost and it's proximity to NYC where I live. My undergrad GPA is mediocre, 3.05. But I have a 4.0 in prerequisites with all but 1 finished (not sure if the writing composition can be transferred from my undergrad). Cumulatively that brings my GPA up to a 3.2. I'm hoping they'll see I've matured as a student since I graduated in 2010. I'm also a clinical hospice volunteer and hoping that experience helps my chances as well. Good luck everyone!
  21. Hi there, I'm applying to University at Buffalo's accelerated nursing program this Fall for the May 2022 start. I haven't seen any other threads on this forum. Anybody else out there applying?
  22. It’s always good to be cautious when spending so much money and I do wish there was more feedback from people who have gone through this program. That being said if you look at most forums on these ABSN programs there are people saying “Don’t go!”, it’s a messy and disorganized program, the teachers don’t teach, you have to teach yourself, etc. You can find people from Pace, Mt. Sinai, LIU, even SUNY Downstate who didn’t make it or regret entering the program. They’re also more likely to write a review than someone who graduated or is in the middle of schooling. The admissions director of CMSV said on the zoom Q&A a couple weeks ago that about 5 or 6 people in each cohort end up dropping out. Most say the first semester is the most daunting. Every student who’s been through an ABSN program says it is overwhelming at times and the hardest thing they’ve ever done. Bottom line is people (hopefully most) graduate from these programs every year and pass the NCLEX to become registered nurses. THAT’S the most important thing. It is so much money and it’s true that not all nursing programs are equal, but the goal is to graduate and get a job where the real training begins. That there aren’t many positive reviews of this school and the first time NCLEX pass rate is 80%(last year according to the admissions person) gives me pause too, but I would take anything you read online with a grain of salt. All you can do is listen to your gut.
  23. I live in NYC and am in the process of getting prerequisites done and applying to ABSN programs in the Fall. I'm finding that most of the programs here in the city I am either not a competitive candidate for, are outrageously expensive, or not as good of a program as I would like (low NCLEX pass rates/concerning reviews from students who attended). I've broadened my search for schools outside of where I live, upstate New York, Philadelphia, Miami where I'm willing to relocate for a year. My main concern is whether I will be at a disadvantage finding a job after graduation if I do my clinicals outside of the city I plan to work. I'm not willing to work outside of NYC as my entire life, relationships, affordable apartment etc. are already established here. In your opinion is it better to go to a not so good program where the clinicals may help me get a job in NYC, or go to a better program far away? Do clinicals have much to do with finding a job after school? I've heard people say that it doesn't really matter where you go to school as long as you get through, but I'm skeptical of that. I would really like to get a good education and don't want to pay 60-70k to find myself drowning in a disorganized program with unprepared students graduating. I also do have a lot of nurse and MD friends here in NYC and also have connections at the hospital I work for now. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
