  1. This may sound bad but I really want to quit nursing. I’m in my second semester and just feel burnt out. I think a lot of this burn out also stems from the 3+ years I spent working as a CNA in healthcare. Healthcare can be both physically and psychologically exhausting. I originally went into nursing because I wanted to be a CRNA but honestly I don't think I can put up with the 2 years of grueling ICU experience. Nurses as a whole go through so much *** and new grad pay can be very discouraging especially if you are older. Yes there are other jobs outside bedside but that usually requires many years of experience and the pay in the hospital is the highest. I’m not saying everything is about money but with all the debt we go into for this degree, we deserve to make a nice living. I’m considering doing a software engineering boot camp and pursing a career in tech instead. Does anyone have any advice or have been in a similar situation ?
  2. I am half way through the first semester. It just sucks because I wish I looked at the reviews online, especially because I was between this school and another. The program is hard because it is “self guided learning” meaning there are no lectures and they just expect you to read the book. Most people are doing poorly.
  3. I am currently in an ABSN program which I regret going to, as the program has been absolutely hell. Currently no one in my cohort is passing due to the lack of support and learning materials through my school. The drop out rate is around 75 and very few students make it through all the way. Overall, the program has many flaws that are hindering me and other students from achieving high grades and passing. My dream is to work in the ICU then go on to CRNA school. Talking to other students, it seems like the highest grade anyone gets is just passing which is a C. Is it worth it to switch to a different program that I know I can excel in ? I don’t want my GPA to drop as a result of attending a program that has poor student outcomes. Especially if the goal is CRNA and there are other programs where I can do better in. Any feedback is helpful.
  4. Do you feel like your education actually prepares you/ was challenging ? This is another thing I worry about as I’ve often heard people say the curriculum for NPs isn’t rigorous enough. 5. Hello ! So I will be finishing nursing school soon and would either like to go on and work in psych then apply to a PMH NP Program or go the ICU route and then go CRNA. I'm passionate about both professions but was curious about the education. Are psych NP programs preparing students as well as CRNA programs ? People have said they don't, as the majority of your classes are "fluff" and you are writing papers rather than getting in depth clinical experience. opinions ?
  6. Yeah it finally hit me that the program was a scam when I saw a girl I went to college with get a job at the JHU hospital after completing an ABSN program through a public school here in MN, while a different girl who I went to hs with who had graduated from the JHU MSN got a job at my hospital as a floor nurse making the same as a BSN (my hospital has a set pay scale). Thanks for your honest insight !
  7. This is also my goal too ! I think JHU would be more beneficial for the DNP to be honest because it would be your last degree before finding an NP job. After the program which is almost 2 years you still need at least 1 year RN experience before applying for the 3 year DNP program.
  8. That is true, but I also know a girl from MN who did an ABSN program here from a random school and got her first job at JHU medical center working in the ED. I spoke with another student who actually graduated from this program and she works here in MN at a local hospital. Like I think it would be a nice experience attending the school and make people outside of the nursing field say wow, but I just don’t want to be mislead and disappointed. It is also just concerning that the program will be mostly online but yet they are not decreasing the tuition.
  9. That is true but it will not be right away. The first job you will get with an MSN will not be in management or higher positions because they often require you have some experience. I plan on getting my DNP which I think will open more doors
  10. After talking to some of the nurses who work at my hospital my hopes of attending the program were really out into perspective. Tuition alone is 100k, and I was informed that they reviewed me for all scholarships already without applying which means I’ll only get 10k. im just concerned because MSN nurses really don’t make that much more compared to BSN. Because the program is nearly 2 years, I am anticipating on having to add an additional 35k on top of that to cover rent/food etc etc so in total like 125k for the MSN. This is why I’m thinking of doing a different program instead that’s an ABSN. I simply don’t have money like that or family that is wealthy
  11. Yeah I filled out the FAFSA but IDK how much they will give me so we will see. In terms of scholarships I was told that you are automatically reviewed for all of them and I only received the one worth 10k. also does anyone know how long the program is exactly ? I know it’s 5 semesters but is that like 18 months ?
  12. Hi everyone ! I was also accepted to the JHU program for this Spring but lucky for one of you on the waitlist, I will be giving up my seat because I just don’t think I can afford it. They promise everyone a scholarship, but I only received a 10k scholarship which will only bring the program down to 90k. anyone else having doubts about attending ?
