I haven’t put my deposit down yet (waiting on the stimulus check LOL) but am planning to! I’m choosing this program over Northeastern for financial reasons but I also feel pretty confident that it will be a good fit after the info I got from the accepted students Zoom. Currently in VT and excited to be in Boston soon ☺️

I heard the same thing from a current student I talked to about clinicals. She did say it was difficult to find a placement when covid started, but didn't say that any student found it outright impossible to find a clinical spot. She also said that (as tempting as it is) she would not recommend picking a school based solely on whether it promises to place you for clinicals, as she has heard from people in multiple other programs that they hav had to find their own spots as well. A lot of students also use connections they made from the RN portion of clinicals to find NP clinical placements! sorry! I'm not sure about sitting for the NCLEX, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that if you want to only pursue your RN, not the MSN, that you can transfer to the BSN program at Simmons to finish the degree (I think this is the undergrad program, not an accelerated. Only women can transfer to the BSN since undergrad is women only)

Thank you!! This is so helpful to know. I’ve read the bad reviews online (I’m sure the same ones you all have read) and gotten nervous bc this is my top choice due to location and finances (scholarship here, didn’t get money anywhere else). But based off this and the answers of someone else I talked to, I get the sense that the program is what you make it and you can have a really positive experience, which makes me feel more confident ?

I got my packet too! And my scholarship was just based on application review but I know there are lots of external nursing scholarships out there!

Yep! I’m pretty sure Simmons requires you to work at least 8 hours a week as an RN while in the MSN portion, so it seems like they set you up well to somewhat support yourself financially once you’re past the NCLEX

hey all! circling back with some info I got from a current (in her last semester) student. she said her biggest piece of advice would be that the more you apply yourself and work hard, the more you will get out of the program. she has only had a couple professors that she didn't love, and said that classes are typically held all within the same 1-2 days per week, so its conducive to also working (she did ~20 hours/week during pre-licensure and has done full time through the MSN portion). she also said that she had great pre-licensure clinicals and that the nurses at surrounding area hospitals love having Simmons clinical students. she did say that students typically have to find their own clinicals for the MSN portion, but that a lot of them were able to find placements through connections they had made in previous clinicals. and one more note about clinicals that she mentioned - regardless of whether the program says they will find clinical placements for you, expect that you will have to advocate for yourself at some point no matter where you go (based on her own experiences and students in other programs that she knows). hope this helps ?

This is my top choice bc I also got a scholarship...I posted on the 2020 thread asking for the experience of those that decided to attend and will reach out to a friend of a friend who is in the program right now. Will report back ?

Hey everyone! I was just accepted to the Simmons DE FNP program and was wondering, for those on this thread who decided to attend Simmons, what your experience has been so far. I was also accepted at MGH and Northeastern, but Simmons offered me a scholarship and would be considerably less than either of those options. I'm finding mixed reviews on graduatereports.com. Any input would be extremely helpful!

thank you so much, this is super helpful info to have!! I found the same thing to be true when I applied for undergrad (ultimately why I didn't end up going). hopefully I will still end up in boston ?

I reached out to the program director about this, and she said that merit-based aid is very limited but is awarded early to mid February. She also said that most students take out federal/personal loans at least for the BSN portion of the program, and that financing the MSN is easier since almost everyone is working at least part time as an RN. thank you! direct entry MSN ?

@amanda12 thank you!!☺️ I'm very excited! I read the NEU thread from last year many times and it seems like not every specialty requires an interview, and that decisions are kind of sporadic. I sent my application at the end of October and interviewed right after Christmas!
