  1. @TinyTraumaRN I haven’t started clinicals yet, those start in the fifth semester. You have to find preceptors and sites yourself and they encourage you to have them set up two semesters in advance. It is very competitive finding sites, but the clinical coordinators work with you. I don’t want you to think it’s the perfect program, but I don’t think it’s a diploma mill either. I’m learning and feel confident that after the program I’ll be able to pass the boards and practice with confidence. Let me know if you have any other questions!
  2. I’m a student now in my third semester for the psych NP Program. Nova wasn’t my first choice but the program started before others and I didn’t want to wait. I have to say so far so good. The first semesters are “core” courses that involve writing and research. Then patho and you move into Healh assessment and pharm. The coursework gets more demanding as you go. This program is relatively new and you can tell sometimes, but they are figuring it out. I like it so far and feel like it is a good program. Yes at the end of my interview I was accepted. Because it is a new program I don’t think there are as many applicants and they can accept the ones that apply and meet certain requirements. I’m assuming as the program gains popularity the tradition of being admitted in the interview will stop and it will become more competitive.
  3. @umbdude It is an inpatient facility. Up to 14 patients per nurse with two techs. I am in a psych NP Program looking to gain valuable experience, what kind of facility do you suggest I look for?
  4. I am looking into getting started in my career in psych, moving from an ICU. Where I interviewed, they told me I would have 14 patients. Is this normal? I know the ratio would be much higher than I'm used to, I just want to make sure this facility isn't putting more on its nurses than it should before I sign up.
  5. Unfortunately I can’t help with that, but I am a nurse in Orlando too and am about to start a PMHNP program. May I ask where you’re in school? I’m trying to find the right program right now.
  6. Jay- if you don’t mind my asking, when did you attend and what campus were you at? I am looking to apply to Tampa’s psych NP Program but this is giving me second thoughts.
