  1. Hi there, It may be doable with an online program. However, finding clinical could be an issue when traveling all over the country. If you decide on travel, local travel may be the best fit for NP school. good luck!
  2. Hi there, I know this may be late but I worked med-surg 2 years and have been an OR circulator for 2.5 years. I anticipate graduating with my FNP in 1 year. I think the OR experience has actually been really helpful and has allowed for a better work life balance while I have been in school. I think getting a circulator position where you are in a variety of specialties is the best. Many surgeons in my area hire NPs and OR experience is definitely a plus when applying for these jobs. I learned a lot as a bedside nurse but constant mandated shifts and stress made me hate going to work and there is no way I could be successful in school doing bedside. I don't think you need to worry about losing skills as the job is temporary until you graduate.
  3. Hello All, I am currently an MSN student at CUW completing my FNP. I am 2 clinical semesters away from graduating but I am somewhat disappointed with my program. It requires 240 clinical hours per semester, I must attend at least 7 hours each day two days per week. 25% of my patients need to be peds, and my school does not help with finding placement. In addition I have twice weekly email communications, weekly patient journals, 4 detailed SOAP notes per semester, 7-10 chapters of reading weekly plus 3 or more hours of online lecture on top of other assignments. All this while trying to work. I'm downright exhausted and it has taken a toll on my personal life. I know it isn't meant to be easy but are all NP programs this rigorous? What are your programs like? What are the requirements? How do you find a good work-life balance?
