Kari Shimer specializes in Future RN, 3 years experience with total care pt.
I never saw myself as a nurse. My mom has been a nurse since I was 8, and I always admired her for it. I was more artsy, and became a hairstylist. In 2016 I began a journey I never would have chosen. My now late husband was struck by lightning, and suffered an anoxic brain injury. He required total care for the remainder of his life. Throughout the 3 years post-injury, I learned how to care for his every need. This training began about 7 weeks after his injury at the Shepherd Center in ATL and continued on to the Polytrauma unit at the VA, and then by various nurses in home care, including my mom. I discovered a passion for nursing I knew that I needed to pursue. So after my husband's death, with encouragement from loved one, clinicians who followed our journey, and a new BF who decided he wanted to do it to, I started my new journey into the career of nursing! I am waiting on acceptance into the program at SPC, and can't wait to get started.
