I emailed the nursing immunization coordinator in September to see if I could get a hold of the immunization sheet. She sent them to me, and I made my appointment in the first week of October for this week. When I tried to change my appointment due to work in the middle of October they told me that they were booked out for the rest of the month and are now into November, right now I don’t know what that is looking like for appointments. For my second appointment they booked it right at the end of my first appointment.

Yes! There is a specific number to call for incoming nursing students at the SU Wellness clinic, you can find it on their website. Be prepared to make 2 trips to the clinic since for the tuberculosis skin test, they are required to see you within the next 48-72 hours for results. In one trip to the clinic I got 5 shots in the same arm.

Hey! Yeah I went yesterday to get my immunizations. Be ready to make like at least 2 trips though for those and they are booking out fast! I got my immunization record online and printed them off.

Also I’ve spoken to admissions, office of the registrar, and the nursing student advisor regarding my situation a few months ago, and none of them did anything to help me. You have to contact a specific nursing admissions officer to get things straightened out.

I don’t think that is true...... I know someone that got in with a 3.7 already ? and apparently anyone with a 3.6 is waitlisted. And there are 18 seats left in our courses so spots aren’t filled up yet.

Forgot to add the course name. It was GRST 211 at the UofC or CLAS 1111 at MRU.

Yeah the UofC literally takes your most recent 5 courses (15 credits) in whatever you have taken. They don’t care if it had a final exam or not. All of my music courses did not have a final exam, other than world hand drumming, I had a drumming final exam. If you can find an online medical terminology course, I would recommend that too! Its a memorization course, and as long as you study with flash cards weekly and memorize all the terms and its meaning then that is also an easy A but this requires studying and studying requires time commitment.

If you are at the UofC I would suggest you take music courses. They are literally courses where you attend concerts and write about how it made you feel and the tests are all memorization based exams. So if you study hard, an A is possible. I took Music 403 (world hand drumming was sooo fun but looks like it has been discontinued ? ), music 309, and music 307. I also took a drama class and that was fun as well.

Ahhh I see how that happens... yeah if you retook the course right after the first time then your first attempt would still count as one of your RECENT courses because its still within the MOST recent 5 courses. But if the first time you took it was like 6-7+ courses ago then it wouldn’t have counted within the recent 5 courses to be used in your admission GPA ?

If you have taken multiple prerequisites for nursing UofC uses the the course with the higher grade to satisfy the prerequisite requirement. So lets say you got a B in anatomy and physiology and you retook it and got an A they would take the A. Another example, if you got an A in lets say art history and a B in psychology they would take the A in art history to satisfy the arts prerequisite requirement. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Hey! So sorry to hear about this ? . Keep trying and don’t give up, nursing is incredibly competitive to get into in Calgary and I don’t know why. Retake prerequisites if you have to, and also consider applying out of province too. Best of luck to you!

Hey @stressedstudent this is the grading scale the UofC’s continuing education uses but maybe the nursing faculty uses something similar to convert your grades from % to the 4.0 scale?

Calculate your GPA by taking your grades from anatomy and physiology 1 and 2 (6credits), statistics, english, highest GPA in an arts course, as well as the grades from your last 5 courses excluded prerequisites above. Add up the GPA value of each and divide by 10 to get your admission GPA.

Honestly I am planning on applying for student grants, student loans, and will also be applying for a professional line of credit with CIBC for nurses. I heard they have the best rate and I think its a good idea to apply just in case, but I am planning on just using student loans and whatever grants I can get first. I am also planning on working part time. I just can't decide how many hours I should work while going through the program. I was thinking 13 to 16 hours over two days but not too sure if this is doable or not...... anyone else planning on working part time through the program?
